Lady Knights ranked first in WV
The end of the 2011 season is looming near for high school volleyball teams in the state, with Sectionals to begin next week. The Lady Knights of Tyler Consolidated, ranked the number one team in Class AA in the state at this point, are working hard to extend their post season beyond local tournaments.
The Lady Knights participated in the LKC tournaments last week, facing off with Calhoun County in the Semi’s. The Silver and Black defeated the Red in three, 25-22, 25-20, and 25-13.
Senior Keri Suter led the team in scoring with 27 points, eight aces. She also highlighted the day with 78 sets, 38 assists, two kills and 13 digs. Fellow senior, Sami Jones, scored six, three aces, had 18 digs, two blocks and five kills; Whitney Williams scored five, two aces, and had 19 digs; Torrye Cline, five points, seven digs, one block, seven kills; Megan Carpenter, four points, one block, two kills; Allison Wable, three points, six digs, three blocks and 28 kills; Sydney Reed, two points, two kills; Abby Atkinson, five kills; Shay Yonaley, three digs; and Carly Fletcher, four digs.
In the LKC finals, the Consolidated team met up with the always dominant Wirt County Lady Tigers, who took the match in four games: 22-25, 25-22; 25-20; and 25-15.
Suter again led the team in point getting with 13. She had one ace, 16 digs, 75 sets and 28 assists. Cline scored six points, had eight digs, two blocks and six kills; Williams scored six, and had 15 digs; Wable, three points, one dig, four blocks and 14 kills; Jones, two points, nine digs, two blocks and five kills; Carpenter, three kills; Sydney Reed, one block; Atkinson, four kills, four blocks; Yonaley, seven digs; and Fletcher, three digs.
The Lady Knights will celebrate the three seniors on their team on Saturday at home. Matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
