Knights defeat Lady Rebels

Tyler Consolidated’s Lady Knight volleyball team has had their plate quite full of late, with several games as well as the OVAC tournament to get through. Though they did not get a win at the OVAC, the Lady Knights are playing more determined than ever, hoping for post-season play.

On Oct. 14 the team met up with Sectional rivals, the Ritchie County Lady Rebels, handing the Blue the loss to the tune of 16-25, 25-21 and 15-13.

Led by senior Whitney Williams and junior Torrye Cline with 12 points apiece, the Lady Knights showed well in the contest. Williams, who had two aces, also was credited with 24 digs, while Cline served up an ace, had one block and seven kills. Wable scored 10 points, four aces, had four digs, two blocks and 18 kills.

Keri Suter scored ten, one ace, had six digs, set the ball 108 times and had 46 assists; Jones scored seven points, two aces, had 16 digs and 13 kills; Megan Carpenter scored six and had two kills; Abby Atkinson powered 13 kills and had three blocks; Haylea LeMasters, six digs; and Shay Yonaley, five digs.

The Lady Knight junior varsity team also defeated the JV Lady Rebels 25-11, 21-25 and 25-22.

Scoring for Consolidated in the contest were Kerstyn Cline, 13 points, six aces; Sydney Yoho, 12 points, two aces; Bridget Matthews, eight points, two aces; Jasmine Moore, five points; Sydney Reed, three points; and Hillary Casteel, three points.

On Saturday the varsity Lady Knights participated in the OVAC volleyball tournament in Steubenville, taking on Monroe Central in the class AAA semi-final. The Seminoles took the game in two sets, 25-18 and 25-9.

Gaining points in the match for the Silver were Allison Wable and Keri Suter with three points apiece. Wable had two kills, one ace, and Suter had two digs, 41 good sets and 12 assists. Sydney Reed scored two points, and had two kills; Torrye Cline scored two, had seven digs and eight kills; Sami Jones, one point, one ace, five digs, one kill; and Kerstyn Cline was credited with five sets and one assist.

Monroe Central went on to win the AAA title, defeating Buckeye Trail.

In the consolation final, Shenandoah defeated Tyler Consolidated, 25-15 and 25-21.

Senior Sami Jones scored five points for the Lady Knights, two aces, had six digs and two kills; Cline scored five, one ace, had two digs, set the ball 10 times and was credited with four assists; Wable scored three points and had seven kills.

Whitney Williams scored two points, and had six digs; Kerstyn Cline scored one; Suter had 32 good sets in the game and 13 assists; Shay Yonaley, one dig; Carly Fletcher, two digs; Abby Atkinson, eight kills; Haylea LeMasters, one kill.

The Ladies in Silver played at Paden City on Tuesday and will play Calhoun County at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Roane County in the first round of the LKC Tournament.
