Golden Bears hand Knights 58-0 loss

The long and difficult 2011 season continues for the Silver Knight varsity football team at Tyler Consolidated High School as the team is still looking for their first win of the 2011 season after falling to the Oak Glen Golden Bears at Newell on Friday, 58-0.

Oak Glen put their first points of the night on the scoreboard with 8:11 to go in the first period of play and never looked back in handing the Silver and Black their sixth loss of the season.

“Oak Glen is the best team we’ve seen to date,”said head coach of the Silver Knights, Rob Caldwell. “They were big, fast and experienced. We want to be competitive with these teams, we’re just not getting there.”

As has been the norm rather than the exception this season, the Knights have been plagued with injuries to key players throughout the year. Thus far, the team has not participated in a single contest with a full, healthy roster.

At Oak Glen, the Knights achieved two first downs in the game to their hosts 17. The Knights were penalized twice for 10 yards while the Bears were penalized seven times costing them 65 yards. Both teams lost one of four fumbles.

Knight quarterback, Hunter LeMasters completed one of six passes and was intercepted five times in the game.

Gaining rushing yards on the night for the Silver were: Swen Scheidemantel with 14 collected on one carry; Jacob Highley, seven runs for 14 yards; Cole Kocher, one rush for six yards; Evan Cline, four yards on two carries; Skyler Leasure, five carries for four yards; Alex Doak rushed three times for three yards; J.P. Flesher gained one yard on one carry; and Josh Ruble carried the ball three times to gain one yard.

Defensively, senior Evan Cline led the Knights with seven solo tackles, two assists and one special teams solo; Dakota Brennaman was credited with six solo tackles and three assists; Levi Henderson had four solos and three assists; Koty Martin, three solos and three assists and caused a fumble; J.P. Flesher, three solos; Swen Scheidemantel, two solos and three assists; Jacob Highley, two solos and three assists; Jay Earley, two solos, three assists and a fumble recovery; Nathan Billiter, two solos, one assist; Christian Harris, two solos; Cole Kocher, one solo, two assists; Hunter LeMasters, one solo, three assists; Spencer Billings, one solo; Troy Watson, one solo; Slade Dillon,, one solo, three assists; Josh Ruble, two assists; John Moore, one assist.

The Silver Knights will host the Braxton County Eagles on Friday at Knight Stadium. The Eagles come into the game with a 4-3 record, fresh off a win over Ravenswood, looking to rack up a win that will look good on a play-off record. Homecoming festivities will be held at half-time on at Knight Stadium.
