Tyler Consolidated’s boys varsity soccer team played two games last week, splitting the difference with a win and a loss.

On Sept. 20 at Monroe Central, the Silver easily took the 5-0 win over the Seminoles.

“It was a good game for us, the kind of game we needed at this point in the season,” said head coach of the Consolidated team, Scott Wall. “Everybody played, everybody contributed, it was a real confidence builder. We changed our offensive formation a little and it seemed to work for us.”

Scoring for the Silver were Matthew Goudy, Mario Mantecone, Dylan Romine and Chris Postlethwait, who scored twice. Also, for the first time in the history of the program at Tyler Consolidated, another player provided an assist for each goal scored. Contributing with assists in the game were: Romine, Chase Cornell, Ty Klages, and Jeremy Smith, with two.

Freshman Nathan Heintzman had his first career shut-out in goal.

On Sept. 22, the Knights played host to the Yellow Jackets of Williamstown, taking the loss on the chin, 1-0.

“I felt we could have won this game, but we just couldn’t get the ball in the net,” the coach said. “It was a pretty physical game but we battled well. It was frustrating not being able to score.”

The Knights took six shots on goal to Williamstown’s eight.

Just missing out on the OVAC soccer tournament played this week, the Silver Knights will play again on Saturday, when they host Trinity at Burgbacher Field.

The Knights will participate in a three game soccer event Saturday as both the Knights and Lady Knight soccer teams host “Kickin’ for a Cure”, a campaign intended to bring awareness to light in the ongoing fight against breast cancer. The members of the Tyler Consolidated soccer teams will don pink and are asking fans to do the same on that day.

The three-game event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Lady Knight varsity going up against Lincoln. The junior varsity team vs. Lincoln will follow immediately. At 2 p.m. the boys varsity soccer team will host Trinity.
