Lady booters tie Monarchs, 2-2
Only one game was played by the Lady Knight girls soccer team of Tyler Consolidated last week, that game being played on Sept. 20 at John Marshall. In a hard fought battle against the Lady Monarchs, the Silver and Black held their own, winding up tying the northern team, 2-2.
“We played well,” said head coach of the Lady Knights, Cliff Warner. “It was back and forth, back and forth in the first half, playing to a 1-1 tie at halftime. I was very, very pleased with the way we fought back and held our ground.”
In the second half, the Knight defense held tough, allowing only one goal while the offense put one in to even the score.
Carissa Beaver and Tiffany Kernan scored the Lady Knight goals with Meg Warner giving an assist.
“The last fifteen minutes were as exciting as any game I’ve ever been involved in,” the coach said. “It was great.”
Following the varsity game, the Consolidated junior varsity team faced off against John Marshall’s junior varsity, with the Lady Knights taking the fall, 4-0.
“We played a good first half, but had a few let downs in the second,” Warner said. “But we were glad to get the game in so the JV team could get some field time.”
On Thursday the Silver will travel to Wheeling Central in hopes to redeem themselves for the loss at the Maroon Knights’ hands earlier in the season.
On Saturday, a three game soccer event will be held at Burgbacher Field in Middlebourne, with both Lady Knight teams and the boys varsity team all participating in the “Kickin’ for a Cure” campaign intended to bring awareness to light in the ongoing fight against breast cancer. The members of the Tyler Consolidated soccer teams will don pink and are asking fans to do the same on that day.
The three-game event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Lady Knight varsity going up against Lincoln. The junior varsity team vs. Lincoln will follow immediately.
At 2 p.m. the boys varsity soccer team will host Trinity.
