It was a win for Paden City on Friday as the Wildcats rolled over the Gilmer County Titans, 47-6, for the home teams first win of the season.

Up against a throwing team in the Titans, the Wildcat defense had their work cut out for them from the get-go. But within minutes of the first quarter, the Green and White cinched success. The team put 40 points on their side of the scoreboard in the first half of the game to take the lead, and added seven more in the second half to seal the deal in front of an excited hometown crowd.

“It was a good game for us,” said head coach of the ‘Cats, Brent Croasmun. “The boys gave a good effort and it showed on the scoreboard.”

“Our freshmen played the entire fourth quarter and I think they did a good job. They got some good varsity experience without being under so much pressure.”

The Wildcats gained 466 rushing yards on 52 carries in the game. Quarterback Zach Heasley completed two of three passes for 29 yards in the air with Peyton Hinkley making both catches.

Senior Taylor Still was on his game at Berger Field, racking up 276 yards on 20 carries and four touchdowns to set the tone for the Green in the game. Geoffrey Bidwell rushed 12 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns; Craig Allen rushed six times for 45 yards; Brandon Cross had eight rushes for 25 yards; Keith Hardbarger rushed once for a gain of three yards and one TD; and James Baker had one carry for three yards.

Defensively, Jared Stewart had five tackles and one interception; Hinkley, five tackles; Aaron Higgins, five tackles; Jay Billiter had four tackles and one interception; Still had four tackles; and Kyle Staton had four tackles, two for a loss; Baker was credited with one interception; Bidwell had an interception; Trey Leonard recovered one fumble; and Ben Anderson sacked the Gilmer quarterback once.

The Wildcats will host the Hornets of Hundred on Friday, with Homecoming festivities taking place at halftime.
