Ladies win over Magnolia

By Staff | Aug 31, 2011

The Lady Knight varsity soccer team of Tyler Consolidated played three games last week, winning one.

On Tuesday the Silver and Black spent some time on artificial turf at Steubenville, but wound up with the loss, 4-0 at the hands of the Lady Red.

“They’re a good team and got a good start with an early goal on us,” said Lady Knight head coach, Cliff Warner.

“It just went downhill from there. We played okay, but without confidence.”

On Thursday the Silver traveled to New Martinsville to take on the Lady Blue Eagles. After 80 minutes, the Consolidated Ladies had gained their first win of the season, 5-0.

“It was good to get the win,” Warner said. “The girls played better defensively than we have and we had more communication on the field. It made all the difference.”

Senior Marley Snider got a hat-trick during the game, scoring three goals. Tiffany Kernan hit the net for a point as did Jennifer Yost.

On Saturday, the team played at Weirton Madonna, taking the fall, 6-0.

The Knight defense held strong throughout the first half, holding their opponents to only one goal, but the Lady Don’s efficient defense soon put paid to any hopeful goals by the Silver.

“We’re improved, but we still have some work to do,” the coach said.

“We had some break-downs, some failure of communication. We just have to work harder.”

The Lady Knights played host to Wheeling Central on Tuesday and will travel to Lincoln on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. game, where the junior varsity team will debut in their first game of the season. The next home game is on Sept. 13.
