Soccer team earns first win of ‘11
The first win of the season in their opening game was exactly what the Silver Knight boys soccer team at Tyler Consolidated was hoping for, and got.
The team defeated the Monarchs at John Marshall on Saturday by a score of 2-0.
“We actually looked pretty good,” said head coach Scott Wall of his team.
“We had a few break-downs and some miscommunications from time to time, but overall our defense played very well and our offense did their job.”
Scoring goals for the Silver in this first game of 2011 were sophomore Dylan Romine in the first half with an assist from Nathan Heintzman and the second from junior Mario Mantecon in the second half on an assist from Dylan Reynolds.
“Offensively, we didn’t finish as well as I would have liked,” Wall said. “We took 12 shots on goal but should have taken more.”
Keeper Skylar Kinnard had one save on the day, which can be attributed to the diligence of the defense of the team.
“Defensively we did a good job limiting their shots,” the coach said. “Scott Sole, Brandon Frey, Chris Postlethwait and Dustin Tawney did a great job for us on defense. They did what we asked them to do.”
“We were glad to start of the year with a win,” Wall said. “We saw where we need to work on some things, and we will, but overall coach Kinnard and I were very pleased with them.”
The Silver Knights played host to the St. Clairsville Red Devils on Tuesday and will host Magnolia on Thursday at 5 p.m.
On Saturday the team will travel to Trinity for a 1 p.m. start.
