Officials sought

The Ohio-West Virginia Basketball Officials Association is sponsoring a basketball officials training class.

Those successfully completing the class will be licensed to officiate high school level and below in West Virginia and/or Ohio this season. Classes will be held evenings and weekends in the Parkersburg area. There is a very serious shortage of officials in the area. Any individuals ever considering giving back to the game, or have ever wanted to be a referee, now is the time.

For an Ohio license, the official must be at least 15 years old. In West Virginia, officials must be at least 18.

For more information, contact Rich Gerber at 304-482-1720. Classes will begin on Sept. 19

Volleyball tryouts to be held

The Tyler Consolidated Middle School Volleyball team will begin tryouts/practice on Aug. 15 from 3:45 to 6 p.m. at the Tyler Consolidated Middle School gymnasium. Any middle school girl in grades seven or eight interested in playing should plan to attend.

All students trying out for the team must bring a completed physical form (signed on both front and back) on the first day of practice.

No student without a completed physical form will be permitted to practice; forms are available in the office at

the Middle School. In addition, a copy of the students birth certificate is required.

For more information, contact coach Janet Cline at 304-758-2956.

Benefit dinner is announced

The The Hope Fellowship Church is having a benefit spaghetti dinner for Vicki Williamson on Aug. 14. The dinner will be held at the Sistersville Fire Dept. from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The cost of the dinner is $6 and will include spaghetti, salad, dessert, break and drink, and take out will be available.

Sponsorships for scramble are needed

The Sistersville General Hospital Foundation’s annual benefit golf scramble will be held Sept. 22 at the Sistersville Country Club. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.

This is the major fundraiser for the Foundation. Yet this event would not be possible without the generosity and support of not only the local community, but all who beleive in SGH and its importance to people who otherwise would be lacking in healthcare.

SGH is in need of 18 hole sponsorships ($150), hole prizes, door prizes, and general sponsorships.
