Going from only three players in the 2010 season to six this season, the Paden City High School varsity golf team looks to make some noise on the courses of the Ohio Valley.
“With only three golfers on the team last year we couldn’t even participate as a team, we could only turn in individual scores,” said head coach of the Wildcats, Ed Amos. “With six we’ll be able to score some team points this time around, and I’m so glad for the kids. But we got some course time in last year and the kids we had got to hit some. That experience helped the two we have returning. I’m just glad we have enough this season to be able to be competitive.”
The lone senior on the team, Sabrina Midcap, returns as a starter to the team along with Kyle Postlewait, sophomore. “These two got some experience on several courses last year, and we’re looking for them to lead us.”
Jeremy Mercer, sophomore, joins the team this season along with freshmen, Levi Meadows, Dean Frye and Kayla Barker.
“We’re looking to improve our play, improve our scores, and finally be able to compete as a team against other teams this year,” Amos said. “I told the kids that we’re here to learn the game of golf and have a good time because it’s a life sport that they will be able to play forever. “We’re looking forward to the season.”
The Wildcats will begin their season on Aug. 10 at St. Marys. The team will play their home games at the Sistersville Country Club with the first home match against Tyler, John Marshall and St. Mary’s.
