SGH plans annual benefit
On Thursday, Sept. 22, the Sistersville General Hospital Foundation will be playing host to a benefit golf tournament at the Sistersville Country Club. Registration is at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start scheduled an hour later.
Diana Rice, Community Outreach Coordinator for Sistersville General Hospital, is organizing the event on behalf of the hospital’s foundation. Sistersville General Hospital is more than 100 years old, according to Rice, and much of the equipment could use an update.
”This is our only fundraiser for the entire year,” she said. ”It’s about raising money for the hospital.”
This is the 12th year the golf benefit has been held. It is open for anybody to sign up, and the cost is $100 per person or $400 per team. The event consists of four-man teams on 18 holes. The winning team gets all of its sign-up money back, and the first runner-up receives half of the original cost. Carts are included in the entry fee and lunch is provided.
Bell Chevrolet in Sistersville has donated to the golf benefit, and a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro or cash will be awarded to anyone making a hole-in-one on the first hole. Other prizes include a three-night, two-round stay-and-play vacation to TPC San Antonio, a set of Callaway Razr X irons and a Callaway Razr Hawk Driver and set of woods.
Rice said that in the past, proceeds from the benefit have helped purchase new equipment for the x-ray department, an awning for the emergency room entrance and other repairs. She said each department in the hospital makes a ”wish list,” or repairs or upgrades, and the list is prioritized by need to determine what changes will be made first.
”We’ve been very blessed,” said Rice, who extended thanks to Bell Chevrolet and the Wells Inn of Sistersville.
”We pride ourselves on being a hospital of the people. We turn no one away for lack of insurance. If you even give $25, that adds up,” Rice said.
