Football sign-ups are scheduled
The Tyler County Youth Football League will be holding sign-ups for football and cheerleading on July 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the old SHS football field.
Boys and girls entering grades second through sixth grades are encouraged to sign-up.

The first practice will be held on July 25 at 6 p.m.
The sign-up fee will be $40 per child and $60 for two children from the same family.
Flag football league designated
Silverstar Athletics Youth Flag Football League is holding signups, open to all Tyler County and surrounding area youth who are entering grades 1-6 in the fall of 2011.
The football league signup will be Monday, July 18 from 6-8 p.m. at the Middlebourne City Park Shelter. First child $20; each additional child, $10.

Paden City cheer camp upcoming
Paden City cheer camp will be held August 1-3 from a.m. at the old Paden City Middle School gym. Cost is $25.
Those who register by July 25 will receive a t-shirt.

Cheerleading camp to be held Aug. 3-5
The Tyler Consolidate High School varsity cheerleaders are hosting the 2011 Knight’s Spirit Camp August 3-5, from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Ages four and above are welcome!
Campers will learn a floor cheer and dance, sidelines, tumbling, and stunts. All campers will be provided with a camp tee shirt and lunch, and will be invited to cheer prior to the first home football game, Sept. 2.
Pre-registration by July 24 is requested, but there will be registration from 8:30-9 a.m. August 3. Cost of camp is $30.

Soccer camp planned
The 3rd Annual Tyler County Soccer Camp will be held Saturday, July 30 at Sistersville City Park for children ages 4-14. Instruction from 4-7 p.m., with free pool admission from 7-9 p.m.
Refreshments will be served
The cost will be $20. Pre-registration will be held at the Large Park Shelter on July 16 from 9 a.m. until noon.

Free junior golf night to be held at SCC
Boys and girls entering grades four through eight in the fall are invited to a free Junior Golf Fun Night to be held at the Sistersville Country Club on Monday, July 18, beginning at 6 .pm.
Fun activities for the evening will include putting and driving contests, along with breaking up into small groups to play several holes of scramble format golf under the direction of an adult member of the country club.
Hot dogs and light refreshments will be served.
There is no cost for this Junior Golf Fun Night, but please register by July 17 by calling the Sistersville Country Club at 304-652-3005 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Catfish tournament benefits soldier
PFC Kyle Hockenberry, a 2010 graduate of Frontier High School was recently injured in Afghanistan while serving in our armed forces. To defray from family expenses, Frontier FFA is sponsoring a catfish tournament on Sunday, July 24. All profits and donations will be forwarded to the Hockenberry family.
Entry fee is $10 and there are once again two divisions: Flathead and Channel Cat. The first prize for both divisions is $100. Look for the signs on the North end of New Matamoras and the buoys along route 7.

5K slated for July 30
A benefit 5K walk-run will be held July 30 to raise funds for Amanda Bonner-Brown, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Start/finish point is Tyler County Courthouse, with check in time 8:30 a.m.
Entry fee is $15 (includes t-shirt).
Refreshments available at the finish line.

Early registration deadline approaches

The goal of the benefit is to raise as much money as possible for Bonner -Brown to help with medical expenses, so awards will be limited. The course is not difficult but does include a few hills. Tyler County Courthouse is designated for the start/finish point. Participants will walk the loop of Gorrells Run Road, as well as streets in Middlebourne. Refreshments will be available at the finish line.
If you do not wish to walk-run, but would like to purchase a t-shirt, cost is $12.

Golf scramble slated for July 30
The New Martinsville School second annual kickoff Golf Scramble is set for July 30 at Riverside Golf Course in Sardis, with a shotgun start at 7 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams with a $10, 000 hole in-one grand prize. The registration fee is $50 a person, or $200 for a four-player team.
Early Bird registration by July 20 will be $45 a player or $180 per team. Golfers will be provided courtesy drinks and food throughout the outing. An awards dinner, catered by Quinets Court Restaurant, will follow the scramble.

MU satellite volleyball camp planned
The Marshall University satellite volleyball camp will be held at Tyler Consolidated High School July 25-28.
The annual summer event is conducted by the coaching staff and players at Marshall University, under the direction of MU Head Coach Mitch Jacobs.
The camp is open to girls ages 10-18.
Age groups will be divided. High school sessions will be held daily from 8:30-11:30 a.m.; Middle school sessions will be held from 12:30-3 p.m.
The cost is $70 per high school camper or $65 per middle school camper. amp is limited to 32 campers per session.

The MU volleyball team has been nothing short of spectacular since the arrival of head coach Mitch Jacobs in 2002. Coach Jacobs has also taken pride in working within the youth volleyball community.
