Knights host Invitational

By Staff | Jun 22, 2011

On June 18, The Silver Knights of Tyler Consolidated High School played host to the 3rd Annual Putzulu Invitation Volleyball Tournament.

Ten teams participated in the event, including teams from John Marshall, Phillip Barbour, Warren Local, Wirt County, Ripley, Paden City, Edison Local, Robert C. Byrd and two teams from Tyler Consolidated.

The tournament action began with pool play which consisted of two games to 25-points. The winning team must win by two points, with a cap of 28-points. The seeding is based on the following: number of games won; total points scored; total points scored upon; and a coin toss to decide home team.

The tournament was well attended, with over 150 people in attendance. The uniqueness of this tournament was that not only did the teams participate in the game, they also worked the scorer’s table and officiated the games.

The winners of this year’s tournament was Warren Local, who won the championship round against Wirt County. The Tyler Consolidated team placed third in the tournament.

Coaches Richard and Tracy Summers are to be commended on running a well organized event, which not only provided good entertainment, but also allowed the student-athletes of Tyler Consolidated a chance to compete with some other schools.
