Teams gear up for Regional competition
The Silver Knight and Wildcat track teams of Tyler Consolidated and Paden City competed in large track meets last week, both teams faring well.
Tyler Consolidated’s girls and boys varsity track teams competed in the Little Kanawha Conference championships on May 6 in Glenville. Both teams put together nice performances to gain more experience towards Regional competition.
Lady Knight senior, Rheanna Foley, added several points to the team tally with several second place finishes on the day which included the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter and as part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team with Hillary Casteel, Jackie Clark and Madeline Schlabowski. She was the only member of the girls team to be named to the All-Conference team.
The Lady Knights placed third overall in the team competition with 68 points. The Lady Yellow Jackets of Williamstown placed first overall with 176 points followed by St. Marys with 87. Doddridge County took fourth place with 64 points, followed by Ritchie County, 42; South Harrison, 37; Roane County, 27; Gilmer County, 19; Wirt, 19 and Braxton County, 19.
Silver Knight senior, Isaac Graham took first place at the meet in the 300 meter hurdle event, and was part of the first place shuttle hurdle relay team along with Jordan Smith, Jeremy Smith and Brandon Frey. Graham also placed in the 100 meter dash, and was part of the second place 4×100 relay team along with Dirk Fletcher, Joseph Semple and Alex Doak. He was the only member of the Tyler Consolidated boys team to be selected to the All-Conference team.
The Ritchie County Rebel team took first place in the boys team competition with 129 points. St. Marys placed second with 116, followed by Doddridge, with 98; Williamstown, 60; Tyler Consolidated, 46; Ravenswood, 24; South Harrison, 19; Gilmer County, 16; Calhoun, 14; Roane County, 13; Braxton County, 12; and Wirt, 10 points.

Paden City High School varsity boys and girls track teams participated in the huge Ohio Valley Athletic Association Track Championships last week, competing against schools from all classes in the conference.
In the girls Class A finals, Paden City senior Taylor Parsons, placed first overall in the girls 300 meter hurdles in 50.90. Against all classes she placed 11th in 51.98. Parsons placed second in the girls 100 meter hurdles in a time of 17.61. She placed 12th overall in the finals of the entire meet with a time of 17.23.
The Wildcat girls 4 x 200 meter relay team of Lynnsie Parsons, Joni Myers, Logan Cosper and Taylor Parsons took second place in the event in the Class A competition in 2:01.83, and placed 15th overall against all classes in 1:58.55. The shuttle hurdle team of Lynnsie Parsons, Joni Myers, Josie Fox and Taylor Parsons placed second in the Class A competition in 1:13.42.
Also placing in the Class A competition from Paden City were: Lynnsie Parsons taking sixth place in the 100 meter dash in 14:33, and a 14th place for senior Becca Ford in 17.71; Lynnsie Parsons took ninth place in the 200 meter in 29.77; Ford placed 15th in the discus throw with a throw of 49-00; and Logan Cosper placed ninth in the girls long jump with a distance of 12-11.75.
Overall at the meet, the Wheeling Park girls finished first with 114.75 points followed by Steubenville Catholic, 111; Meadowbrook, 85. The Madonna girls finished 16th with 30.50 points; Magnolia girls finished 24th with 19 points; Paden City finished 35th with 6.50 points and Bishop Donahue placed 36th with six points.
The Wheeling Park boys also took the overall OVAC win with 160.50 points followed by Magnolia in second with 94.50 and Martins Ferry with 84. Valley’s boys team placed 15th overall with 33 points; Cameron finished 21st with 20; and River placed 22nd with 19 points.
Both the Paden City and Tyler Consolidated track teams will compete at their own scheduled Regionals this week. The Wildcat boys and girls will travel to Wheeling Park on Thursday to take part in the Region I Class A meet against Madonna, Wheeling Central, Bishop Donahue, Valley, Clay-Battelle, Cameron and Doddridge County.
Tyler Consolidated will travel to Ritchie County on May 13 to compete in the Class AA Regional against Oak Glen, Weir, Magnolia, Ritchie County, Ravenswood, Roane County and Pt. Pleasant.
Every Silver Knight and Wildcat athlete competing at these Regionals will be striving to qualify for a berth in their event at the West Virginia State Track Championships the following weekend in Charleston.
