Two new races are designed
The Paden City Foundation, Inc. announced last week information about a new 5K race to be held in Paden City on June 4.
“The Foundation 5K” will be for runners and walkers of all experience levels and will start at 9 a.m.
The start and finish line for this event will be located at Centennial Park (Main Street at 3rd Ave.). Timing services for the race will be provided by J and J Timing of Parkersburg.
This course will be different from the Labor Day 5K staged annually in Paden City. The first 1.5 miles will be on the city streets and the second 1.5 miles will be on a paved walking trail through the city’s park, along the Ohio River.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall runner and walker (male and female) and medal to the top three in each age division runner and walker (male and female). T-shirts will be available for the first 100 entrants, the entry fee is $10.
This race benefits three projects of the Paden City Foundation: The Scholarship Program, the Paden City Museum and Cultural Center and the Cornerstone Project. This year, the Craig Broadwater Memorial Scholarship fun will benefit from the race.
Broadwater was a Brigadier General in the National Guard and served as a personal aide to General Tommy Franks in Afghanistan and Iraq. Broadwater served in Vietnam also.
He was an accomplished lawyer and was appointed to the Northern District Federal Court as judge by President Bill Clinton. He also served as Federal Court Judge in Martinsburg, WV. There is pending legislation in the U.S. Senate to name the Federal Building in Martinsburg after Judge Craig Broadwater.
Members of the National Guard and all military personnel are encouraged to enter the race to support the scholarship fund and to honor this American hero who passed away six years ago after a battle with cancer. Entry forms for the race are available at the Paden City Museum, Paden City Public Library, Mane Event, Sweet Pickin’s, Susie’s Crafts, Paden City Municipal Building, and at WesBanco in Paden City.
Forms are also available at Quinet’s Court Restaurnat in New Martinsville.
An entry form will also be available soon on the River City Runners and Walkers Club web site at: www.rivercityrunners.com.

The Foundation 5K is part of a two-race series called the Ohio River Racing Series. McWilliams, along with Matt Quinet are working to bring a racing series to the area. The second race is the Jim Quinet Memorial 5K in New Martinsville on July 23 which Quinet will head up.
Series points will be awarded to the top three overall finishers in run and walk (male and female) and series champions will be awarded at the Quinet race.
More races may be added to the series in the future.
Sponsors for the series include: WesBanco, Healthy Alliance, Days Gone By Pub, Littman Septic and Porta johns, RAM Financial Services, Quinet’s, and Time Lights Your Way.
