Knights, ‘Cats compete at Cline Stansberry

The weather finally cooperated with a high school track meet this season, turning April 21 into a great day for the Cline Stansberry Invitational meet at Doddridge County.

Seventeen girls teams and 17 boys teams participated in the huge meet, showcasing talent from all over the state.

The Lady Yellow Jackets of Williamstown took the top spot among the girls teams participating with 107 points. Morgantown High School placed second with Morgantown High School, 82.25, followed by Doddridge County with 70; University, 66; St. Marys, 54; Lincoln, 37.33; Tyler Consolidated, 32.25; Liberty, 28.25; Magnolia, 17; South Harrison, 16; Wheeling Central Catholic, 14.33; North Marion, 11; Ritchie County, 8.58; Webster County, six; Paden City, three; Wirt County, two; and Gilmer County, one point.

Magnolia was first place finisher in the boys team division with 114 points. Doddridge County placed second with 70 team points, followed by St. marys, with 64; Ritchie County, 62; University, 45; Liberty, 38; Tyler Consolidated, 30; Robert C. Byrd, 30; Valley Wetzel, 19; Morgantown, 17; Gilmer County, 16; Lincoln, 13; Williamstown, 12; Wheeling Central Catholic, 11; Ravenswood, nine; Independence, six; and North Marion, two points.

The Wildcat boys and girls teams took part in the Mason Dixon Conference Championships on April 15.Six girls teams participated, with Weirton Madonna Lady Blue Dons taking first place in the team competition with 159 points. Valley placed second with 117, followed by Bishop Donahue with 88; Cameron, 53; Paden City, 51; and Clay Battelle, 32.

Seven boys teams competed with the Valley Lumberjack team posting a first place win with 153 points. Bishop Donahue placed second with 113, followed by Cameron, 105; Clay Battelle, 81; Madonna, 50; Paden City, 13; and Notre Dame, eight.

The Tyler Consolidated and Paden City varsity track teams both competed in the WTTL meet held at Tyler Consolidated on April 26. The hosts celebrated senior night immediately preceding the meet, honoring seniors on the team.

Paden City will compete at the John Marshall, Bishop Donahue Invitational on April 28. Tyler Consolidated will compete at the Gazette Relays on April 29 and in Charleston on April 30.
