Silver Knights win over Roane County

The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knight boys basketball team participated in the second annual New Martinsville Rotary boy’s West Virginia Class AA Region One Roundball Challenge on Saturday giving players, coaches and fans alike a look at every boys Class AA basketball team in Region One in order to size them up come post-season time.

The tournament featured all eight class AA teams in Region I: Magnolia, Tyler Consolidated, Weir, Ravenswood, Roane County, Oak Glen, Ritchie County and Point Pleasant.

The Silver Knights kicked off the tournament early in the afternoon, taking on Roane County. The two teams were pretty evenly matched, playing to a Knight lead of 10-4 after one period and a 26-15 halftime score. Though Roane did their best to make a come-back in the second half, the Silver was able to hold on for the 48-37 win.

Senior Zack Knowlton led the Silver Knight scorers in the game with 16 points. Knowlton stole the ball five times and had two rebounds. Cory Lowe scored 11 points, pulled down 10 boards, had three assists and three steals; Boone Kehrer added eight points to the mix, had one steal and one assist and was a certain defensive threat for the Silver with 13 rebounds.

Evan Cline scored six points, was credited with four rebounds, one assist and one steal; Hunter LeMaster added two points and pulled down three boards; Skylar Kinnard scored two, had three rebounds and an assist; Dylan Romine scored two, had six rebounds and one steal; Drew Casey hit a foul shot for one point and had three rebounds.

As for the rest of the tournament, the Red Riders of Weir defeated Ravenswood; Ritchie County handed the loss to Oak Glen and host Magnolia won over Point Pleasant.

On Thursday the Knights will host St. Marys and on Saturday they will welcome Ravenswood to Tyler Consolidated.
