Ladies continue basketball season into 2011

Tyler Consolidated and Paden City high school girls varsity basketball teams wound down 2009 with games played in between Christmas and New Years. Both teams were handed losses in these games but each continues to work toward year end season goals.

Lady Knights

The Consolidated Lady Knights took on the Lady Riders of Weir on Dec. 28 at home, allowing a 21-point effort by Weir in the second quarter to determine the outcome of the game. The Silver were defeated 51-36.

Scoring the home team were Sami Jones with 13; Torrye Cline with seven; Lynsey Casteel, six; Heather Suter, five; Whitney Williams, two; Charkawi, two; and Allison Wable, one.

Consolidated started out 2011 by hosting the Lady ‘Cats of Paden City on Jan. 3, handing the Wildcats the loss, 56-26. The Knights scored 18 points in the first stanza to take a determined lead in the game on their way to the win.

Sami Jones led all Knight scorers in the game with 12 points. Sophie Kinnard added eight points; Cline scored eight; Charkawi, six; Heather Suter, six; Daugherty, four; Wable, three; Keri Suter, three; Casteel, two; Williams, two; and Carpenter, two.

The Lady Knights will play again tonight at Doddridge and will host Parkersburgh Catholic at home on Jan. 10.

Lady ‘Cats

At Valley on Dec. 30 the Paden City Lady Wildcats took on the Lumber jills of Valley, falling in the effort, 43-19. The Lady ‘Cats scored eight points in the first quarter to Valley’s, 23.

Scoring for the Green and White were Megan Cutlip, six points; Logan Cosper, four; Dominique Craft, two; and Amanda Heasley, one. Cutlip had 15 rebounds in the game for the ‘Cats while Samantha Shreves pulled down seven; Cosper had 10 steals; and Cutlip was credited with four assists and Craft, two.

On Monday at Tyler Consolidated, the Green fell to the Silver and Black by a 30 point margin, 56-26. The ‘Cats saw some success in the third period, putting 10 points on the scoreboard, but it was too-little-too-late to take the win.

Cutlip led all scorers in the game with 16 points. Heasley scored four points; Craft added two; Samantha Shreves scored two; and Joni Myers put up two.

Paden City will take on Cameron in their next outing on Wednesday at Cameron. Jan. 8 will see the Ladies in Green hosting St. John; and on Jan. 10 Paden City will play at Bishop Donahue.
