Silver Knights win over Lumberjacks

By Staff | Dec 22, 2010

Snow days and school cancellations have already forced the rescheduling of a few games at Tyler Consolidated, but through it all, the Knights were able to get two games in last week.

Hosting Williamstown on Dec. 15, the Silver took their time getting warmed up, thus meeting defeat for the second time in the short season, 54-45.

The Yellowjackets came out strong in the first period, fast breaks counting for the majority of the 18 points on the scoreboard. The Knights collected seven and then 11 in the second to trail at the half 28-18. Though the second half of the game was more evenly matched between the two, the Knights took the fall.

Seniors Boone Kehrer and Zack Knowlton topped all Knight scorers in the game with 13 points apiece for the home team. Justin Carpenter scored six; Corey Lowe added five; B.J. Eastham totaled four; Darren Heintzman added two; and Skylar Kinnard and Evan Cline added a point apiece.

On Dec. 15 the Knights pocketed their first win of the season when they defeated Valley at home in a too-close-for-comfort battle for points.

Again, a sluggish start to the game for the Silver Knights found them trailing the visitors 14-19 at the half. A better third and fourth quarter told the story of the game though, along with the two foul shots made by senior Corey Lowe in the last five seconds of the game to seal the deal, 50-49.

Lowe scored the most points for the Silver Knights with 12, followed by Kehrer with 10; Carpenter, 11; Cline, seven; Knowlton, four; Heintzman, two; Eastham, two and Hunter LeMasters, two. Kehrer led the team in rebounds with 12 and had six assists.

Barring snow days, delays and cancellations, the Knights were scheduled to travel to St. Marys on Tuesday and will play at Doddridge on Dec. 23. On Dec. 28 the team will play at Magnolia.
