Netters to end seasons
The end of the season looms near for local high school volleyball teams with final regular season games played this coming week. Teams will be honoring and recognizing senior members at their last home games and planning strategies for post-season play.
West Virginia High School Volleyball Sectionals will be held Nov. 1-4 with Regionals to follow the week of Nov. 6.
Locally, both the Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights and Paden City Lady Wildcats look to do well in the post-season, each with hopes of making it past their Regionals in order to participate at the state level.
The West Virginia State Volleyball Championships are scheduled for Nov. 12-13.
Lady Knights
The Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights hosted Gilmer County on Oct. 21 in an LKC match-up for fifth place. The Silver took the match in three games, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-14.
Sami Jones led all Knight scorers in the game with 17 points, two aces, seven kills and four digs.
Heather Suter scored 12 points, three aces, 14 kills, and six digs; Whitney Williams served seven points, two aces, and eight digs; Torrye Cline scored six, one ace, and 15 digs; Sydney Reed, five points, one ace; Allison Wable, eight kills, 10 digs; Alison Clegg, four kills; Megan Carpenter, two kills.
Keri Suter scored five points, had 65 good sets, 25 assists, and five digs in the game.
With the win, the Lady Knight varsity record now stands at 23-9.
In the junior varsity match-up, the young Knights defeated Gilmer, 25-4 and 25-23. Myah Charkawi scored 10 serving points, Haylee LeMasters, nine; Makayla Clegg, six; Abby Atkinson, three; Shay Yonaley, two and Sydney Reed, two.
The Lady Knights will host St. Marys on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m.
The volleyball team will travel to Wirt County on Oct. 30 for their last regular season match.
Lady Wildcats
The Lady Wildcats of Paden City faced off with Morgantown Trinity in the first game of a tri-match at home on Oct. 19. The Green and White fell in the first set, 23-25, but bounced back to take the next two, 25-16 and 25-14.
Chairo Di Leo scored 18 points in the game including three service aces. She also had 12 digs and seven kills. Amanda Heasley scored 14 points and contributed eight kills and four digs; Dominique Craft and Megan Cutlip combined for 24 points, four service aces, 17 digs and 16 kills. Lynsee Parsons tacked on 11 points, while adding 26 assists and four digs. Loan Cosper scored six points and seven digs.
In the second tri-match with Tyler Consolidated, the Wildcats dropped two straight, 13-25 and 18-25 for a split.
Craft was the only Wildcat in double figues for Paden City. She tallied 11 points, including three service aces, while adding three kills and seven digs to lead the ‘Cats. Heasley followed with eight points and three kills, while Cutlip and Parsons each tallied four markers.
Cutlip paced the ‘Cats with seven kills, while Parsons had 58 sets. Di Leo was held to only three points, while Cosper added three digs.
The Lady Wildcats celebrated senior night on Tuesday at the home game with Williamstown and Magnolia. On Oct. 30 the team will host the Mason Dixon Tournament.
