Eagles shut out Knights, 57-0

By Staff | Sep 15, 2010

In the rival game of the week last Thursday, the Blue Eagles of Magnolia handed the Silver Knights of Tyler Consolidated their third loss of the season, 57-0, in New Martinsville.

By the end of the first quarter, the Knights were down by 28, but kept plugging away. “That is one heck of a football team,” said Knight head coach, Rob Caldwell. “Eighteen seniors, who have stayed with the program and at least two or three four-year starters. Had we been healthy and injury free it would have been a tough one. As it was we have young inexperienced linemen, kids out sick, kids playing sick and people out with injuries. It was a tough one, but we did what we could do. Our kids didn’t quit, they gave all they had and we’re very proud of them for that.”

“Magnolia is just good. This could very well be their year to go all the way.”

The story of the game can be told in offensive downs, with Magnolia gaining 16 while the Knights only managed three. The Knights lost two of three fumbles and Knight quarterback, Jordan Smith, completed one of 11 passes and was intercepted twice in the game.

Corey Lowe caught one pass to gain three yards for the Silver. Consolidated rushed 30 times — Isaac Graham ran the ball 22 times for 13 yards; Evan Cline rushed three times for nine yards; Andrew Ruble rushed once for five; and Alex Doak ran the ball once for one yard.

On Friday the Silver Knights will host the 1-1 Edison Local Wildcats at Knight Stadium. Another tough opponent, coach Caldwell hopes to have a rested and healthy team on the field to face them. “We’re just hoping to get as many people as we can back to their regular positions and go from there,” he said. “It’s going to be an uphill battle from here, but we’re going to do our best.”

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
