Golf scramble is successful
The Veterans of Foreign Wars tenth annual scholarship golf scramble held on July 10 at the Sistersville Country Club turned out to be very successful, adding money to the growing scholarship fund.”The tournament was a huge success,” said chairman of the event, Larry Howard. “We raised $3,000 for the scholarship so the trust will continue to grow. Someday we hope the interest will cover the scholarships themselves without having to take money out of the the investment fund.”
The overall championship at the tournament was awarded to the team of Dave Mendenhall, John Mendenhall, Josh Mace and Larry Devol.
“The turn out was great for the tournament,” the chairman said. “We had 68 golfers participate.”
Howard offered his appreciation to the businesses and individuals who supported the tournament including the Tyler Star News, Wetzel Chronicle, Bill McCoy and staff at the Sistersville Country Club; Rose Herman for the food preparation; Gayle Flanage, Grille Masters; the hole sponsors; and the Sistersville Tank Works, the major sponsor of the hole-in-one.
