Knights send 12 individuals and 8 relays to state
The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knight boys and girls track teams served notice at the Class AA Region I Regional in Ritchie County on Thursday, that they were there to compete, and compete they did. The Knights turned in some outstanding performances and will be sending 11 individuals and five relay teams to the State Track Meet on Friday and Saturday.
In order to qualify to compete at the West Virginia State Track Meet in Charleston next week, athletes had to have placed first, second or third in their Regional competition, and then the next four lowest times or highest distances of athletes throughout the state qualify. Field events qualify by places and set distances.
Three individual Consolidated athletes brought home first place medals at the Regional including: Senior Aaron Estep who took the top spot in both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs. Fellow senior, Nate Taylor, won first in the 200 meter; Lady Knight junior, Jackie Clark, won the girls pole vault competition. Two relay teams took the gold at the meet: the girls 4×100 relay team of Madeline Schlabowski, Hayley Acree, Rheanna Foley, and Jackie Clark placed first overall in that event; and the Knight boys shuttle relay team of Isaac Graham, Alex Jones, Jeremy Smith, and Jordan Smith wowed the crowd with their winning performance.
Individual’s bringing home second place medals, and qualifying for state for the Knights were: Rheanna Foley in both the 200 and 400 meter runs; Haylea LeMasters placed second in the 300 meter hurdles; Makayla Clegg took second in the high jump; Lynsey Casteel took second in the shot put; Hunter LeMasters placed second overall in the boys pole vault; and Nate Taylor took second in both the 100 and 400 meter dashes. The girls shuttle hurdle team (Hayley Acree, Mikayla Clegg, Tiffany Lohri, and Haylea LeMasters) came oh-so-close to first, but wound up with a second place finish in that event. It was the same story with the Silver Knight boys 4×100 relay team (Alex Doak, Dirk Fletcher, Joseph Semple, and Taylor), who took second.
Third place winners at the Regional, also qualifying for state, were: Haylea LeMasters in the girls pole vault; senior Tiffany Lohri in the girls long jump; Carlee Morris in the girls shot put event; Aaron Estep in the 800 meter run; the girls 4×200 relay team (Acree, LeMasters, Lohri, and M. Clegg); Alex Doak in the boys 200 meter dash; and the girls 4×400 relay team (Alison Clegg, Clark, Acree, and Foley).
In the team competition at the Regional, the Weir High Lady Riders took first place with 133 earned points. Ritchie County’s host team, the Lady Rebels placed second with 121 points, followed by Tyler Consolidated with 104; Oak Glen, 70; Magnolia, 42; Point Pleasant, 42; Roane County, 28 and Ravenswood, 17.
The Ritchie County Rebels took the championship in the boys division with 107 points, followed by Magnolia in second with 106; Tyler Consolidated, 91; Point Pleasant, 75; Weir, 63; Oak glen, 56; Roane County, 37; and Ravenswood, 22.
The West Virginia High School State Track Championships will be held in Charleston at Laidley Field on May 21-22.
Listed below are the first three finishers in events at the Regional and all other Consolidated finishers.
