ANNUAL JUG HANDLE 5K RUN?AND?WALK

The 18th Annual Jug Handle 5K Run/Walk will be Sunday, Aug. 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Middlebourne, state Route 18 North. It will begin at the bridge, go out Seller’s Road and come back. It will be timed by the Middlebourne Roadrunners Club. and sponsored by the Tyler County Fair Association.

Trophies will be awarded to the first female and male runners. The age groups for males will be 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over. The age groups for females will be 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and over.

Pre-registration and day-of-race registration will be $10. Profits will benefit the Long Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and Service Awards presented to students from Arthur I. Boreman Elementary School, Sistersville Elementary School, and Tyler Consolidated Middle and High schools. Make checks payable to Kerm Long.

Come prepared to run. Toilets are available at Lucy’s Restaurant and Witschey’s. Traffic control will be provided by the Tyler County Sherriff’s Office, Middlebourne Fire Department and Middlebourne Emergency Squad.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Paden City will be holding flag football signups on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Paden City High School multi-building.

They will be for kids in grades K through 6.

TCHS GOLF

The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights Golf Team will begin practices on Monday, Aug. 3, at the Sistersville Country Club. Practice will begin at 8 a.m.

Any boy or girl who will be a student at Tyler Consolidated in grades 9-12 who is interested in joining the golf team should bring the following on the first day of practice: 1. a completed physical form (approved by a doctor and signed on both sides by a parent), 2. a proof of insurance form, and 3. an athlete’s Code of Conduct agreement.

BOYS SOCCER

Practice for the Tyler Consolidated High School boys soccer team starts Monday, Aug. 3 at the soccer field behind the old Tyler County High School.

The first practice will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 11. There is a second practice from 1 to 3 p.m. Those wishing to play should be there at 8:30 and ready with shin guards and cleats.

Students must have a completed physical and a 2.0 gpa. For more information, contact boys’ Head Coach Scott Wall at 304-337-8991.

CROSS COUNTRY

Tyler Consolidated Middle School and Tyler Consolidated High School Cross Country practice will begin on August 3rd at 8:00 a.m. at the track. TCHS CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS

Tyler Consolidated varsity cheerleaders will begin tryouts on Monday, Aug. 3. Tryout practices will be held Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Aug. 4 during the same time. Tryouts on Aug. 5 will begin at 9 a.m. Anyone wishing to tryout has to have a physical in hand on Aug. 3. If you have any question please call Coach Grimes (771-2206) or Coach Skinner (758-5174).

FOOTBALL GOLF SCRAMBLE

The Tyler Consolidated football team is sponsoring a benefit golf scramble Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Sistersville Country Club.

A shotgun start will begin the event at 9 a.m. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place finishers. A hole-in-one on Hole 1 wins $25,000. There will also be door prizes, raffles, and hole prizes.

The cost will be $50 per golfer and will include green fees, cart, food, and beverages.

SCHOLARSHIP GOLF SCRAMBLE

The second annual Courtney Evans Memorial Scholarship 4-person Golf Scramble has been scheduled for Sunday, August 9.

It will be held at Mingo Bottom Golf Club in Elizabeth, W.Va.

There will be a $50 entry fee per person with four person teams welcome. It will be an 18 hole, half cart event. Lunch and refreshments will be included.

If necessary, teams will be assembled on site.

On site registration starts at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start following at 2, but early registration is encouraged.

The golf course will be dedicated to this event the afternoon of August 9, so they will play rain or shine.

This is a benefit golf scramble and its sole purpose is to remember one of the Ohio Valley’s finest young men and to help further the education of others in his memory.

All proceeds will be dedicated to the scholarship fund. Those wishing to contribute to the scholarship fund can mail a donation in the name of Courtney Evans to Terry Nichols, 2218 Lindy Circle, St. Marys, WV, 26170.

TCHS VOLLEYBALL

Tryouts for the Tyler Consolidated High School volleyball team will be conducted on Aug. 10-12 from 6 to 8 p.m. each day in the TCHS gymnasium.

Prospective players must have a physical completed prior to the first practice. Physical forms must be the official WVSSAC forms, which can be picked up at the school. Any questions about tryouts should be directed to Coach Richard Summers at 304-652-1584.

TCMS FOOTBALL

All interested Tyler Consolidated Middle School 7th and 8th grade students wanting to play football must report to the Tyler Consolidated Middle School gym Monday, August 10 at 9 a.m. for helmet fitting. Students must have an updated sports physical, football cleats and proper running clothes. Any questions please contact Coach Bob Jones at (304) 758-2625.

YOUTH GOLF TOURNAMENT

There will be a youth golf tournament at St. Marys Golf Club on Monday, Aug. 10. Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m. with tee off at 4. Any child 12 and under wishing to participate should call the St. Marys golf club and pre-register. The age divisions will be ages 11-12 boys, 11-12 girls, and 10 and under girls and boys. This will be a 9-hold tournament with the course set up for specific age groups.

If time allows, special putting and chipping contests will be conducted. If parents choose, golf carts will be available for $5 to caddy for your child.

St. Marys golf course has been proactive in allowing youth to get involved with the game of golf and want to encourage all interested kids in the mid-Ohio Valley to participate.

MEN’S SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

There will be a men’s softball tournament on Aug. 22 and 23 by the Sistersville Parks and Recreation. There will be an entry fee per team with pay-outs being awarded to first, second and third place teams.

MEET THE TEAM

The Tyler Consolidated boosters will be sponsoring a “Meet the Team” night Monday, Aug. 24 at 5 p.m.

There will be a street carnival in the lower parking lot near the softball field. Food, wagon rides, games, and contests will be held until 7:30.

The fall sports athtletes will be introduced beginning at 7:30. The Family Resource Network will sponsor a “Back to School” dance from 9-11 in the gym to complete the evening. Any organization is encouraged to participate in this community celebration.
