‘Cats host 7-on-7 tourney

KNOCK IT DOWN — Paden City thwarts River’s attempted pass.
Paden City capped off their three week coaching period by hosting a seven on seven tournament Friday evening with seven other teams from six different schools.
Among the schools participating were Beallsville, Bellaire St. Johns, Bishop Donahue, Bridgeport (Ohio), Cameron, and River. The Pilots fielded an “A” and “B” team.
The teams were divided into two pools with River “A”, Cameron, Bridgeport and Bellaire St. Johns in Division “A”. Paden City, River “B”, Bishop Donahue and Beallsville made up Division “B”.
It was supposed to be a round-robin pool seeding before a single-elimination tournament, but unforeseen circumstances prevented the event from running its full course.
As a result, a new system was created and saw River and Bishop Donahue come out of their respective divisions to play in the championship. There, the Pilots “A” team defeated the Bishops 18-12.
The Wildcats earned the second seed in their division and played in the consolation game, but fell to the Bridgeport 32-12. Paden City dropped to Bishop Donahue 18-12 in their division game to see who would play in the championship.
The ‘Cats won their other division games against Beallsville 20-0 and River “B” 12-6.
Scoring for the event was six points for a touchdown and two points for an interception.
Josh Bennett led the Wildcats with five touchdowns. Taylor Still added two and Mitchell Steward scored one. Bennett and Stewart both added an interception.
