Lady Knights win four games in four days

By Staff | Apr 29, 2009

Tyler Consolidated’s softball could use a rest after seeing one of the busiest stretches of games of any team in the state.

The Silver Knights played a total of six games in four days with doubleheaders on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. The odd part of the equation was that it came against four different teams: Valley, Weir, Magnolia, and Ravenswood.

The lengthy slate of games started Thursday as the Lady Knights hosted the Lumberjills. The first game kept both teams on edge as both teams scored solo runs in the first inning, but remained scoreless for the rest of the mandatory innings.

Finally, in the bottom of the ninth, Tyler Consolidated crossed a runner to win a 2-1 thriller.

Hitting was strong for the Silver Knights as they pounded out 11 hits, but couldn’t do much after that.

Sami Jones, Keri Suter and Shaylee Dawson all had two singles while Kaitlyn Goudy provided a double and an RBI in addition to being credited the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts in a two-hitter.

Game 2 wouldn’t be as much of a nail-biter for Coach Charlene Galluzzo and her Lady Knights.

Tyler Consolidated took an early lead with two runs in the first and one more added in the second. After Valley put on the rally caps with two runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to one, the Knights equaled that with two of their own. After the ‘Jills scored another run in the fifth, the Silver Knights put the game out of reach with a six-run fifth.

Two last runs in the sixth would end the game via mercy rule at 13-3.

Keri Suter would pick up the win in this game with one strikeout. Goudy would come on in relief sitting down three ‘Jills of her own.

The hits kept coming in this game, and this time Tyler Consolidated took advantage with 13 runs on 19 hits and aided by two Valley errors.

Sami Jones had a strong game with three singles and a pair of RBI as did her sister Christy with two doubles, a single and an RBI.

Heater Suter added a double, single and two RBI, while Stephana Wilcox singled twice, hit a double, and batted in three.

Rachel Yoho hit a single and a double with a couple of RBI. Amanda Goodfellow singled and had an RBI, Dawson doubled and singled twice, and Kayla Fisher singled for an RBI.

TYLER CONS. 3, WEIR 1

The Knights kept up the winning streak with a narrow 3-1 victory over the Lady Red Riders on Saturday, the first game of a doubleheader that also featured Magnolia.

Tyler Consolidated scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. It turned out that would be all they needed. Another insurance run was added in the fifth before Weir avoided the shutout by plating a run in the sixth.

Goudy again took the win with six strikeouts and hit two singles with a pair of RBI. Sami Jones doubled and hit for an RBI.

MAGNOLIA 14

The Silver Knight hit machine came to a hault in the next game as they had a makeup game with rival Magnolia.

Without Goudy pitching, the Lady Blue Eagles took advantage of the other members of the Silver Knights battery and took an early lead with eight runs in the first two innings. Tyler Consolidated scored two runs in the third, but it wouldn’t be enough as Magnolia shut them out the rested of the way and added six more runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 14-2 win.

Errors plagued the Knights as they had seven total. At the plate, they were limited to just one hit.

Keri Suter started the game and struck out one while Heather Suter finished the game striking out three.

TYLER CONS. 3, RAVENSWOOD 5

On Monday, Tyler Consolidated made the trip to Jackson County for the twinbill that would see them split with the Devilettes.

In Game 1, Ravenswood narrowly edged the Knights 5-3 despite being out-hit by a 12-8 margin.

The Lady Knights once again scored in the opening frame with a run, but the Devils answered with a pair of their own. The same exact thing happened in the fifth before Ravenswood added one in the sixth.

Tyler Consolidated scored one in the seventh, but couldn’t generate any more offense and lost 5-3, only their third loss in LKC play and first to a team other than Ritchie County.

Goudy struck out five in the loss while singling and batting in two. Christy Jones singled thrice while Sami Jones hit a pair of singles. Heather Suter also added two singles

TYLER CONS. 4, RAVENSWOOD 2

The Lady Silver Knights would get the revenge win in the nightcap in another close game decided by two runs.

This time after Tyler Consolidated scored in the first to take the lead, they would extend it in the third with two runs.

The Red Devils scored a pair in the fourth, but couldn’t score the rest of the way. Tyler Consolidated added an insurance run in the sixth to set up the final score 4-2.

Goudy proved more impressive in the nightcap as she reached double digits in strikeouts with 10. She helped her cause with a single and one RBI. Goodfellow also singled and hit in a run while Suter singled twice and had an RBI.
