By Staff | Mar 25, 2009

FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME — Campers, coaches and staff members took time out of their Saturday to pass on knowledge of the game of baseball. Campers included kids from the surrounding areas and the coaches and staff involved the teams of Magnolia and Tyler Consolidated.`

On Saturday, March 14, Tyler Consolidated baseball coach and Magnolia’s assistant coach Vance Ash directed a youth baseball camp at Tyler Consolidated High School.

Many kids from the surrounding area came in and learned some fundamentals of the sport and received advice and tips from baseball players from both Tyler Consolidated and Magnolia.

Those players included Zach Perkey, Zack Minger, Blaise Rice, Garrett Amos, Michael Cochran, Jordan Ash, Justin Fox, Mason Rine, Andrew Robinson, and Davey Howell.

“It’s really something special having kids from Magnolia and Tyler Consolidated here instructing and helping out, getting some of the younger kids involved,” said camp director and Silver Knights Head Coach Scott Wall.

“The group of guys we’ve got here are great role models to some of these younger guys. I’m really pleased to see how this is working out. This is only going to be a good thing for the Wetzel-Tyler area.

“Hopefully.we can keep these youngsters interested in the game of baseball and keep them plugged in so they will continue with it throughout. And if we keep holding these camps, hopefully they’ll keep coming back year after year. I think it would be something really neat if some of these kids become high school players for us.”
