Bears down Lady Knights in sectional semi-final

By Staff | Mar 4, 2009

The Lady Silver Knights reached their final roadblock of the season as they had a date with the Oak Glen Golden Bears in the Region I Section I semi-final.

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Tyler Consolidated traveled to New Cumberland to fight for the right to move on in the playoffs. A win would have moved them to the sectional championship game against Magnolia or Weir, but the Hancock County hosts had different ideas.

Payden Eckleberry started giving the Silver Knights problems from outside as she had four 3-pointers on the evening. Tyler Consolidated attempted to return the favor as three girls combined for four bonus shots of their own. Two of them came from Christy Jones with the others coming from Tiffany Lohri and Chelsea Musgrave.

As a result, Oak Glen took an early 14-6 lead after one period of play and increased their lead by halftime to 33-18.

The second half didn’t fare any better for the Lady Silver Knights as Oak Glen outscored them by six in each of the third and fourth quarters, setting up a final score of 67-40.

The loss marks the final game as a Silver Knight for senior Chelsea Musgrave. She finished her final game with four baskets for nine points.

Tyler Consolidated was led by Christy Jones who finished with 10 points on the same amount of scores.

Keri Suter finished with six points, Lohri with five, Heather Suter with four, Sami Jones with three, and Lynsey Casteel, Allison Clegg and Katie Klages with one.

Eckleberry lead Oak Glen with 22.

Oak Glen then hosted Weir where they won 47-44 and will host Roane County today.
