Wood Co. Christian nips Lady Wildcats
The Paden City Lady Wildcats were feeling under the weather literally and figuratively as their lone contest of the week saw them travel to Williamstown to battle Wood County Christian.
Coach Kelly Sine’s crew had hopes of winning their fourth game of the season and second against the Wildcats of WCC, but the hosts had other ideas.
Wood County raced out to a big lead to start the game at 16-2, taking advantage of Alli Bertozzi being on the bench with foul trouble. They would keep the pressure on for a strong second quarter going into the break at 27-7.
Paden City kept getting stronger, but stopping Wood County Christian still proved to be difficult as the hosts took the third quarter 13-8. The fourth quarter was Paden City’s best, scoring 15, but WCC’s 12 points put the final score at 52-30.
Bertozzi scored nine points to pace the Wildcats while adding to her Mid-Ohio Valley leading rebound count with 15. She now has over 200 for the season and is averaging 14.7 per game.
Courtney Conaway also had nine points for the Wildcats in the losing effort. Sasha Newson had five points and the lone 3-point shot of the night. Amber Palmer scored four points and Shauna Durant added three to round out Paden City.
The Lady Wildcats will travel to Beallsville to take on the Blue Devils on Thursday and host Jefferson County Christian on Friday for Senior night where Shauna Durant, Sasha Newson, and Amy Toman will be honored.
On Monday, Paden City will play in a OVAC consolation game against Bellaire St. Johns.
