Knights beat Rebels in barnburner

CRAZY EIGHT — Tyler Brown hits an off balance shot against the Ritchie County Rebels.
Tyler Consolidated overcame the unplanned winter break with a high-scoring affair against Ritchie County in LKC action in Kidwell Saturday.
The Silver Knights and Rebels both had their largest offensive totals of the season in the contest. It was Tyler Consolidated that came out on top 87-79.
The point total is 16 points improved upon their previous high of 71, scored in their first win of the season which also was against the Rebels.
Both teams started fast out of the gate, evenly splitting 40 points at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter would be where the Silver Knights made their move. The Tyler Consolidated offense turned it up a notch, scoring 26 points while the defense caused problems for the Rebels limiting them to only 10 points.
Coming out of the break, the teams were nearly even once again with Tyler Consolidated charting 18 with Ritchie County edging out one more at 19.
In the fourth quarter, the Rebels made a strong attempt but fell just short. Tyler Consolidated was able to score enough points (23) to win the game despite a 30-point fourth quarter by the visitors.
Four players finished in double figures for the Silver Knights, led by Zack Minger with 22 points. Dustin Snider had 17, along with four 3-pointers.
Zach Perkey finished with 16 and led the team with rebounds with 23. Corey Lowe was the final Silver Knight in double figures with 11. Tyler Brown added eight while both Aaron Estep and Alex Jones added six.
Ryan Richards finished with the game high of 29 to pace the Rebels and Barnes had 13.
The win increases Tyler Consolidated’s record to 3-9 overall and 2-7 in the LKC.
The Silver Knights were scheduled to play tonight against John Marshall, but results were not available at press time.
Tonight they are slated to play at Magnolia. On Thursday, they will entertain St. Marys in LKC action. Saturday will have Tyler Consolidated traveling to Jackson County to play the Ravenswood Red Devils.
