Silver Knights Fall to Wheeling Central

By Randy Rutherford - Staff Writer | Jan 22, 2026

The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights ran into a buzzsaw Saturday, January 17, when they faced undefeated and top-ranked Wheeling Central Maroon Knights in the Boggs Pizza Roundball Classic in boys basketball action.

From the opening tip, the Maroon Knights’ stifling defense set the tone, making it difficult for Tyler Consolidated to find any offensive rhythm. Wheeling Central jumped out to a 27-13 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

The Silver Knights continued to struggle shooting the ball in the second period, managing just six points as Wheeling Central steadily widened the gap. At the halftime break, the Maroon Knights held a commanding 48-19 advantage.

Any hopes of a Silver Knights comeback were quickly dashed as Wheeling Central came out of the locker room on fire in the third quarter, pushing the tempo and converting on both ends of the floor. The Maroon Knights’ balanced attack and relentless pressure continued through the final period, sealing a 91-50 victory.

Leading the Silver Knights was Brody Giovinazzo with 11 points followed by Austin Peck with nine and Landon Boggs and Garrett Bordenkircher with seven.

The Knights will need to regroup quickly as they now hit the road to tangle with the 11-1 Doddridge County Bulldogs on January 20.
