Silver Knights Fall on the Road in St Marys
The Silver Knights playoff hopes took a big hit on Friday when they fell to the Blue Devils 21-18 on the road in St Marys. After a scoreless first quarter St Marys opened the scoring on an 11 yard run adding the extra point to lead 7-0 at the 11:15 mark of the second quarter. The Knights would answer later in the quarter on a seven yard run by Gideon Winfrey but the missed the extra point left them trailing 7-6 with five minutes to go before halftime. St Marys would add another touchdown and two point conversion to lead 14-6 with 1:32 to go in the second. The Knights were not done adding a score with twenty seconds to go on a 13 yard pass from Ashton Morris to Kayden Utt but failed on the two point try to fall behind 14-12 at halftime.
The third quarter was a defensive battle until St Marys scored on a 46 yard drive and 10 yard run to the end zone with the extra point good and led 21-14 heading to the fourth. The Knights would begin the fourth quarter on a 45 yard drive finishing with a 28 yard strike from Morris to Kolbin Highley for six but the two point try failed and the Blue Devils led 21-18 with three minutes to play. The Silver Knights would put together a late drive only to reach the red zone before questionable calls by the officials killed any hope they had to pull off the comeback.
Cayden Hall would lead the Knights rushing attack with 61 yards on nine carries followed by Gideon Winfrey with 59 yards on 15 carries. Support also came from Austin Peck with 11 yards on three attempts and Maddox Corley with two yards. Through the air Ashton Morris would throw for 196 yards completing 18 passes on 28 attempts. Three of those completions went to Gideon Winfrey for 75 yards, five completions to Kolbin Highley for 59 yards and one touchdown, six to Kayden Utt for 52 yards and one touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, Garrett Bordenkircher and Cayden Hall would combine for 13 solo tackles. Gideon Winfrey chipped in the five solos, Utt with four, Brayden Neff with three and Sawyer Kunkel with three solo tackles.
The Silver Knights will need to regroup as they prepare for the season finale and Senior Night against state ranked Roane County on Friday, November 7 at Knight Stadium.
