At Knight Stadium on Friday, October 17, the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights delivered a heart-pounding performance, keeping their 2025 playoff hopes alive with a 29-21 overtime victory over Oak Glen. The win, coming after a dramatic comeback, showcased the Knights’ resilience and never-say-die attitude.

The game began with a defensive stalemate, as neither team could find the scoreboard in the first quarter. Oak Glen broke the deadlock in the second, pushing ahead with a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. Tyler Consolidated quickly responded, with Kolbin Highley connecting with receiver Gideon Winfrey on a 34-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good, tying the game at 7-7.

Oak Glen wasn’t finished, though. The Golden Bears answered with another touchdown before halftime, taking a 13-7 lead into the locker room. The tension continued to mount in the third quarter, as Oak Glen stretched their lead to 21-7 with a touchdown, seeming to take control of the game.

But the Silver Knights weren’t about to roll over. With their backs against the wall, Tyler Consolidated mounted a determined comeback. Winfrey capped a strong drive with a 2-yard touchdown run, and the extra point pulled the Knights within seven at 21-14, narrowing the gap to just a touchdown.

In the fourth quarter, with the clock winding down, the Knights showed incredible resolve. Quarterback Ashton Morris connected with Winfrey on a 13-yard touchdown pass, tying the game at 21-21 and sending it into overtime.

Once in the overtime period, it was all Tyler Consolidated. Winfrey ran for a 12-yard touchdown, putting the Silver Knights ahead 27-21. A successful two-point conversion by Morris sealed the deal, securing the thrilling 29-21 victory.

The Silver Knights ground attack racked up 230 yards. Reese Davis led the charge rushing for 81 yards on 14 carries, while Gideon Winfrey was right behind him, adding 66 yards on 18 attempts and powering in two touchdowns.

The Knights’ running back committee continued to find success, with Maddox Corley chipping in 34 yards, Cayden Hall contributing 31 yards, and Austin Peck adding another 18 yards to the total.

Through the air, the Silver Knights accumulated 138 passing yards. Gideon Winfrey led the way hauling in 65 yards, including several key receptions that helped set up scoring opportunities. Cam Strode followed with 48 yards on two catches, while Reese Davis and Kolbin Highley each with 13 and 12 yards, respectively.

On defense, Garrett Bordenkircher put together a defensive masterpiece, registering a game-high nine solo tackles. Kayden Utt wasn’t far behind, recording seven tackles, while brothers Gideon and Israel Winfrey combined for 10 tackles, each adding five solo stops.

The defense was a true team effort, with several players contributing key tackles. Reese Davis, Sawyer Kunkel, and Cayden Hall all pitched in with four solo tackles, demonstrating the depth and cohesiveness of the Knights’ defensive unit.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Knights and moved their record to 4-3 as they prepare for homecoming on October 24 at Knight Stadium against South Harrison.
