The gymnasium at Tyler Consolidated High School was buzzing with energy on Saturday, June 7, as it played host to the Silver Night Invitational, a preseason volleyball tournament that drew 15 teams for a full day of competition.

Kicking off at 9 a.m., the event featured both A and B squads from host school Tyler Consolidated, as well as teams from River A&B, Clay-Battelle A&B, Bellsville, Ritchie County, Frontier, Ripley, Weirton Madonna, Poca, Doddridge County, Robert C. Byrd, and Ravenswood. Pool play ran throughout the morning and afternoon as teams vied for early-season bragging rights and a chance to test lineups ahead of the fall campaign. The final matchup of the day saw the Poca Dots defeat the Ripley Vikings for the overall championship. The Silver bracket overall winner was River and the Bronze bracket winner was Weirton Madonna. The Silver Knights will continue preseason action on Saturday June 14 in a 20 team tournament in Morgantown with play beginning at 8:30 AM at Mylan Park.

The Silver Night Invitational has grown into a staple of the region’s volleyball preseason, giving coaches and players alike an opportunity to fine-tune strategy and build team chemistry against a wide range of competition.

While the tournament results were secondary to development, the day was filled with spirited play, sharp rallies, and plenty of standout moments that hint at a competitive season ahead for many programs.
