Local Athletes Standout at State Track Meet

The 2025 West Virginia State Track Meet was held on Friday and Saturday, May 23 and 24 in Charleston at Laidley field.

Locally Wetzel County had three schools Magnolia, Valley and Paden City with athletes competing. Tyler County was represented by Tyler Consolidated with several athletes.

Magnolia finished in 3rd place as a team and won gold in three events, with Darin Shimp winning the Shot Put and Matthew Anderson winning the Discus. The Blue Eagles also claimed gold in the 4×800 relay. Tyler Consolidated’s Junior distance ace Amos Kimble won the 1600 and 3200 to claim two golds. He finished 3rd in the 800 giving him 26 points for the tournament.

In the 100 meter dash Valley’s Gavin Derby earned one point finishing 8th due to an injury to his hamstring in the 200 meter preliminaries.

In the 800 meter run Kimble finished in 3rd place with a PR time of 2:00.19 good for the Silver medal and six points. Magnolia’s Landen Davis came in 4th with a time of 2:03.13 good for five points.

Amos Kimble won the 1600 meter run with a PR time of 4:19.27 good for a first place gold medal and 10 points. Landen Davis of Magnolia took 4th place in the 1600 with a PR time of 4:27.63 good for five points. The Silver Knights Travis Moore came in 6th with a time of 4:34.56 good for three points. The Knights Brody Nice finished 14th with a time of 4:53.00.

In the 3200 meter run first place and the gold medal also went to Amos Kimble of Tyler Consolidated with a time of 9:32.48 good for 10 points. Second for the silver medal was the Silver Knights Travis Moore who finished with a time of 9:46.34 good for eight points.

Finishing fourth was Magnolia’s Landen Davis with a time of 10:01.20 good for four points. The Blue Eagles Riley Dennis finished 11th with a time of 10:29.29.

In the 300 meter hurdles Tyler Consolidated’s Kellen Dalrymple finished 10th with a time of 44.27.

Tyler Consolidated picked up a point in the 4×100 meter relay in a time of 46.68 from a team of Jacob Henderson, Jonathan Kelly, Maddox Corley and Gideon Winfrey.

In the 4×200 meter relay Tyler took 7th place, good for two points with a time of 1:36.40 from a team of Jacob Henderson, Kellen Dalrymple, Maddox Corley and Gideon Winfrey.

Magnolia finished 6th in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:40.80 good for three points from a team of Kole Goddard, Parker Werkau, Dubale Greathouse and Hunter Oates. Tyler Consolidated finished 8th in a time of 3:51.24 from a team of Jacob Henderson, Kayden Utt, Travis Moore and Kellen Dalrymple.

The Men’s 4×800 Relay Finals had Magnolia taking first place for gold medals with a time of 8:16.46 good for 10 team points from a team of Hunter Oates, Parker Werkau, Riley Dennis and Landen Davis. Tyler Consolidated came in 5th with a time of 8:46.63 good for four points from a team of Travis Moore, Kayden Utt, Brody Nice and Amos Kimble.

Magnolia’s Darin Shimp got off a toss of 45-07.75 in the shot put to take first place for the gold medal and 10 points. Teammate Matthew Anderson tossed the put 42-06.75 to take 4th place, good for five points. The Blue Eagles Anthony Lancaster finished 13th with a heave of 36-06.50.

In the discus throw Magnolia’s Matthew Anderson got off a personal best throw of 161-09 to capture first place and the gold medal good for 10 Blue Eagle points. Teammate Darin Shimp had a nice throw of 141-04 to claim 4th place good for four points. The Blue Eagles Dubale Greathouse was 10th with a throw of 126-05.

Dubale Greathouse of Magnolia finished third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-02 good for six points and a bronze medal.

Valley’s Gavin Derby came in third in the long jump with a nice leap of 20-03.50 good for six points and a bronze medal. Derby, who was among the favorites in the 100, 200, and 300 hurdles, suffered a pulled hamstring in the 200 meter preliminaries forcing him out of contention. Magnolia’s J.D. Mensore finished 4th in the long jump with a fine leap of 20-02.50 good for four points. The Blue Eagles Dubale Greathouse was 5th with a leap of 19-11.50 good for three points.

In the Pole Vault Magnolia’s Nicholas Matheney finished 10th with a vault of 8-08.00.

Doddridge County high school won the men’s event with 134 points followed by Wanamaker with 92 and Magnolia with 73. Tyler Consolidated was 7th with 34 points. Valley finished 16th with 7 points.

In the girls division Valley’s Laken Dawson finished 5th in the 100 meter dash with a PR time of 12.89 good for four points. Tyler’s Kathryn Grimm finished 7th in a time of 13.07 good for two points.

In the 200 meter dash the Lumberjacks Laken Dawson won gold with a time of 26.48 good for 10 points. Magnolia’s Bella Sockman came in 6th in a time of 27.08 good for three points. The Silver Knights Kathryn Grimm was 8th in a time of 27.87 good for a point.

In the 400 meter hurdles Tyler’s Andi Fiber finished 9th in a time of 1:04.95. The Silver Knight’s Ralynn Heintzman finished 12th in a time of 1:06.54.

In the 100 meter hurdles Tyler Consolidated’s Lily Dillaman finished 4th in a time of 16.94 good for five points. Magnolia’s Jesse Anderson came in 7th with a PR time of 17.51 good for two points.

In the 300 meter hurdles Valley’s Elynn Derby finished 8th in a time of 51.22 good for a point.

Magnolia’s girls finished 2nd in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 52.02 good for eight points and Silver medals from a team of London Alexander, Sienna McKeever, Jessa Anderson and Bella Sockman. Tyler Consolidated was 3rd in a time of 52.80 good for six points and Bronze medals from a team of Bridget Doak, Addison Blosser, Bella Garuccio, and Kathryn Grimm. Paden Coty finished 16th in a time of 1:00.21 from a team of Monaya Gibson, Katie Householder, Abby Bloom and Karen Hunt.

In the 4×200 meter relay Magnolia finished 5th with a time of 1:54.06 good for four points from a team of Bindy Campbell, Sienna McKeever, Halley Brussels and Jessa Anderson. Tyler Consolidated came in 12th in a time of 2:02.08 from a team of Kyra Nolan, Tiana Mathis, Octavia Studenic and Jayden Anderson.

In the 4×400 meter relay Magnolia finished 6th with a time of 4:30.65 good for three points from a team of London Alexander, Bindy Campbell, Haley Bessel, and Bella Sockman. Tyler Consolidated finished 10th with a time of 4:38.66 from a team of Ralynn Heintzman, Jayden Anderson, Octavia Studenic and Andi Fiber.

In the 4×800 meter relay Magnolia finished 8th with a time of 11:37.20 from a team of Lily Haught, Addison Reed, Myra Fetty and Camryn Westbrook.

Tyler Consolidated won gold in the 4×102.5 shuttle hurdles with a time of 1:09.14 from a team of Bridget Doak, Bella Garuccio, Addison Blosser and Lily Dillaman good for 10 first place points. Magnolia finished 10th and Paden City ended 13th.

Tyler’s Juliana Lattea finished 3rd in the shot put with a heave of 32-07.75 good for six points and a bronze medal. Paden City’s Monaya Gibson was 13th with a toss of 28-03.50.

Zoe Fisher of Tyler Consolidated finished 14th in the discus with a throw of 82-01.

Tyler Consolidated’s Kathryn Grimm finished 4th in the high jump with a jump of 4-10.00 good for five points. Magnolia’s Leah Hartline was 10th with a jump of 4-08.00. Paden City’s Katie Householder tied her for 10th with a jump of 4-08.0.

Valley’s Laken Dawson finished 2nd in the long jump for the silver medal with a leap of 15-11.25 good for eight points giving her 22 points in the meet. Magnolia’s Sienna McKeever finished 4th with a leap of 15-08.25 good for five points. Addison Blosser of Tyler Consolidated finished 6th with a leap of 15-03.00 good for three points. The Silver Knights Juliana Lattea came in 9th with a leap of 14-08.25.

Womens A 18 / 18 Events Completed Doddridge County won the state meet with 104 team points. St. Marys was second with 79.5 points followed by Charleston Catholic with 73. Tyler Consolidated was 5th with 44 points. Magnolia was 11th with 25 points and Valley was 12th with 23.
