The Tyler Consolidated Middle School girls’ basketball team brought home the LKC Championship this past week defeating Wirt County by the score of 44-41 in double overtime. The back-and-forth affair had several lead changes with TCMS holding a six-point lead at halftime 21-15. Wirt County made a big push to get back in the game outscoring the Lady Knights 13-4 in the third to hold a slim 28-25 lead heading to the final frame. The Lady Knights added 10 points in the fourth and forced overtime with the game tied 35-35. In overtime the middle school Knights would outscore the Lady Tigers 9-6 to claim the win and championship. The Lady Knights were led by double digit scorers Erin Jackson with 11 and Roslyn Cain with 17. Also hitting the score book was Kathryn Suter with eight, Raegan Myer with six and Sydney King chipping in with two points.
“This game was a great team win, with both teams having key starters fouling out (3 for TCMS), but we were able to have great contributions from all our girls to put the game away.” The middle school coach went on to highlight that his team was composed of all 6th graders playing against a team of 7th and 8th graders. “This group will be competing in big games for the next 6 years,” stated the proud Coach Riggle.
