Silver Knights Come Up Short Verses Ritchie

By Randy Rutherford - Sports Writer | Feb 5, 2025

Brody Giovinazzo hits the three.

The Silver Knights met up with the Ritchie County Rebels in boys basketball before a packed house at the Castle on Saturday afternoon February 1, 2025. The Silver Knight fans were out in force to cheer on the Knights but left on the short end of a 61-46 defeat. The Knights fell behind after the first quarter 16-9 and trailed at halftime 32-21. The 11 point lead was too much to overcome in the second half leaving the Knights with a 5-9 record. Tyler’s offense was led by Brody Giovinazzo with 17 points including two from behind the arc. Brady Strode was held below his average chipping in with 11 points. Cole Lemasters added seven for the Knights.

Coach Mark Winters commented on the game. “Ritchie has a nice team with their height, length, and a couple very talented players. They really hurt us on the glass by holding us to 1 shot. We just have to make shots. We were down 11 at the half and held them to 3 points in the first 4 minutes of the 3rd quarter, but we weren’t able to capitalize on the offensive end. Missed layups and wide open looks. We are going to be spending a lot of time on shooting and finishing at the rim to get our confidence back. I think we are trending in the right direction on defense, but we just have to score the ball.”

The Knights will need to regroup quickly as they meet up with a strong Williamstown team at the Castle on February 6. The JV game will begin at 6:00 followed by the varsity game.
