Monroe Central Beats Pilots

Visiting Monroe Central controlled the game from start to finish at Hannibal, in R.L. Potts Gymnasium on Thursday night, January 9, as they cruised to an easy 54-15 rout of the River Pilots.

The Seminoles wasted no time establishing dominance as they jumped in front 24-4 at the end of the first eight minutes. River’s offense was practically non-existent the rest of the way as well as they could only knock in 11 more points over the final three quarters. Monroe Central on the other hand had nine players dent the scoreboard even as they subbed freely following the first quarter.

Leading the way for the visitors were Chance Allen and Tucker Howell with 12 markers each, with both hitting a 3-pointer, while Howell also collected 12 rebounds in limited playing time. Chance Howell and Farnsworth both added five points including a 3-pointer each. Pardon and Silva each hit for six points, while Yontz and Fogle each drilled a three ball. Whitacre rounded out the scoring with two points.

River’s received four points each from Longwell and Dennis, while Hunt, Blue and Price each scored two points and Smith added a free throw.

Central hit 21 shots from the floor, including 10 3-pointers, and made 2-8 free throws, while River hit just six baskets on the night and was 3-7 from the free throw line. Monroe Central controlled the boards 34-19 and created 13 turnovers, which led to several easy baskets.
