Silver Knights Fall at the Buzzer
On Saturday, January 4 the Silver Knights played host to the Ravenswood Red Devils coached by ex Sistersville High School coach Mick Price and lost a thriller 53-51 at the buzzer. The back and forth affair had several lead changes with the largest lead in the game held by the Red Devils at 42-37 after three quarters. The Silver Knights would outscore the Devil’s 14-11 in the fourth and with 39 seconds left and the game tied 51-51 coach Price decided to hold for the last shot and with 10 seconds left called a time out. Silver Knights coach Mark Winters, with two fouls left to give before the bonus, used those fouls on the inbound passes to run critical seconds off the clock and not allow Ravenswood to set up a play. With four seconds left, Ravenswood would get the ball in to Noah Dawson who drove the lane and hit a short jumper as time expired to give the Red Devils the win. The Silver Knights had two players in double figures with Brody Giovinazzo leading the way with 18 points, including several from behind the arc and Brady Strode with 16 points. Garrett Bordenkircher added eight, Cole Lemasters with seven and Zayden Hardbarger with two. Red Devil Noah Dawson would lead all scorers with 25 including the game winner.
“Five or six games this year have been down to the wire and could have gone either way. We played consistent basketball for 32 minutes on both sides of the ball,” said Coach Winters. The Silver Knights will now host Ritchie County on January 7 and Wirt County on January 9 at the Castle.
