Lily Haught and Andi Fiber at State Cross Country Championship.

On Saturday, November 2, the Silver Knights had two girls competing at the West Virginia State Cross Country Championship meet in Ona, WV at Cabell Midland high school. The girls had won the right to be there by finishing in the top 10 on October 23, in the regionals at St. Marys high school. Freshman Andi Fiber ran a tough race in the regionals and came in 7th overall with a fine time of 22:31.28 just a few seconds in front of junior teammate Lily Haught who was 8th with a run of 22:50.21. Sophomore Jahna Brown ran a 26:38.40 for 14th place in the regionals and freshman Sadie Nichols was 19th overall with a time of 31:34.88 for the Silver Knights.

At the state championships against the best runners in the state in Class A the Silver Knights girls represented their school well as Haught finished in 27th place over the 5-K course with a respectable time of 24:10.82. Not far behind was her counterpart Fiber who completed the race in a time of 25:19.66 good for the 34th spot among the top 55 runners in the state.

Both girls will be back next season and with this year’s experience at Cabell Midland look for them to be ready for a return to the state championships. All of the girls on the Silver Knights roster worked hard and performed to the best of their ability at each meet they attended. Congratulations on a fine season as you prepare for 2025.
