Silver Knights Fall on the Road at South Harrison
The Silver Knights hit the road on Friday October 25 hoping to solidify their football playoff hopes but fell short to the South Harrison Hawks in Lost Creek by the score of 51-36. The usual stingy Knight defense had no answer for the Hawk’s Jaden Hatfield who rushed 36 times for 309 yards and four touchdowns. On the night the Hawks totaled 397 yards while the Silver Knights gained 384 total yards. The game was a back and forth affair with the Knights taking a one point lead 15-14 at halftime. The Knights would open the game on a 46 yard pass from Brady Strode to Bo Tallman with Nate Deaton adding the extra point to take the early 7-0 lead. The Hawks would answer with two touchdowns on the ground from Hatfield to lead 14-7 with two minutes to go in the second quarter. Branson Winfrey would add a pick six racing 45 yards to pay dirt. Reese Davis would punch in the two point conversion as the first half ended.
The third quarter started on the positive side for the Knights with Branson Winfrey going 45 yards for a score. The two point conversion failed. South Harrison quickly closed the gap on the ensuing kickoff racing 75 yards for six and then added another touchdown on a 56 yard run from Hatfield to lead 28-21 heading to the fourth quarter.
Strode would team up with Bo Tallman two times in the fourth on touchdown passes of nine and 32 yards but the Knight defense was unable to hold the Hawks giving up 23 points in the fourth quarter.
For the Silver and Black Branson Winfrey would rush 18 times for 152 yards and added one interception for a touchdown while brother Gideon Winfrey would carry the pigskin five times for 24 yards. Brady Strode completed 15 passes on 26 attempts for 220 yards and three touchdowns all to Tallman. Bo would finish the night with six receptions for 127 yards and three touchdowns.
The Silver Knights will now set their sites on St Marys who will travel to Knight Stadium on Friday, November 1 for Senior Night. The Knights will need a win against St Marys to keep their playoff hopes alive and then end the season against Doddridge County in West Union on November 8.
