Branson Winfrey with record setting performance.
Branson Winfrey led a powerful Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights offense to a 55-7 victory over Oak Glen on the road on Friday, October 11, 2024. Branson set a single game rushing record with 367 yards on 18 carries and four touchdowns. The previous record was held by Jacob Lorhi with 347 yards against South Harrison in 2007. Gideon Winfrey followed with 95 yards on nine carries and one touchdown. The Knight offense racked up 525 yards while the defense held Oak Glen to only 139 yards. With the Knight rushing attack in full gear there was not much need to throw the ball as Brady Strode hit on 5 of 14 passes and two touchdowns mainly to Kayden Utt who caught three passes for 47 yards and two touchdowns.
The game was tied 7-7 early in the first quarter but from then on it was all Silver Knights as they scored the next 48 points. The Knights opened a 21-7 first quarter lead and never looked back. Reese Davis added a 44 yard run for a score and Nate Deaton was successful on four extra point kicks. Gideon would add a touchdown on a two yard run in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring.
On defense the Knights were led by a trio of Knights Reese Davis, Trent Webster and Wesley Glover. Davis had five solo tackles and three assists, Webster added four solo tackles and three assists and Glover chipped in with three solos and one assist. The entire Knight defense was active with several players adding solo tackles against the Golden Bears.
Head football coach Kyle Ritz summed up his feelings after the game. “Friday was an awesome night for our boys. They came in and executed the things that we have been working on, and they did a great job preparing. Oak Glen came out and competed hard as we expected; they tied it up 7-7 with us in the first. One thing we were happy to see was our kids sticking together after some things went wrong.”
The coach went on to say for the remainder of the game he believed their offense and defense played lights out the rest of the evening. Coach Ritz highlighted, “Branson Winfrey tallied up a new school record of 367 yards on 18 attempts and 4 touchdowns. He was very complimentary of our offensive line, setting him up nicely to etch his name in the record book.”
