Tyler Consolidated Rolls Ritchie County

Nate Deaton kicks the extra point.
The Ritchie County Rebels were no match for the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights on Friday Night in the season opener for both teams. The Knights dominated on both sides of the ball rolling to a 54-7 victory and a 1-0 start to the season.
Branson Winfrey, Brady Strode and Reese Davis combined for 449 total yards on the ground and through the air. Winfrey led the rushing attack with 12 rushes and 108 yards and two touchdowns. Davis was Strode’s main target, connecting with him five times for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Brady Strode completed 11 of his 13 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns.
The Knights got on the board first with three minutes gone in the first quarter on a 57 yard pass and run to Reese Davis. Nate Deaton would add the extra point and the rout was on. Later in the quarter Branson Winfrey would find pay dirt from seven yards out. The extra point failed and the Knights led 13-0. Strode would again find an open Davis this time for 65 yards and a touchdown. The two point conversion was good on a trick play from Winfrey to Strode and the Knights led 21-0. A Rebel turnover on the ensuing kickoff put the Knights in action at the Rebel 20 yard line and with only eight seconds left in the quarter, Strode hit Bo Tallman on a 18 yard bullet to push the Silver Knight lead to 27-0 headed to the second quarter. The Silver Knights would add one more score in the second quarter on a Strode to Winfrey 12 yard pass and the lead grew to 33-0 at halftime. The offense did not slow down in the second half when the Knights received scoring runs from Branson Winfrey, Cayden Hall and Wesley Kelly.
The Silver Knight defense was also dominant allowing only a fourth quarter score when the game was out of hand. Defensively the Knights received outstanding performances from 16 different Knights led by Garrett Bordenkircher and Nate Deaton each with five solo tackles and combined three assists. Kayden Utt, Brady Strode, Reese Davis and Gideon Winfrey each chipped in with two solo tackles.
The Silver and Black will be back in action again at Knight Stadium on Friday, September 6 when defending state champion Williamstown rolls into town for an early season matchup with two potential postseason teams.
