Stealey Green Grant Aids Health Class

Tyler Consolidated Health Teacher Lillian Jones hopes to expose her students to as many resources as possible throughout their two years in her health class. She does this by adding projects to their assignments, bringing in guest speakers, breaking down daily life choices, and taking them out of the classroom setting.
“This year I had the opportunity to incorporate new experiences into my classroom through the Stealey Green Grant. This grant was founded by a retired schoolteacher named Ruth Stealey Green. Her goal was to incorporate funds to help the residents of Middlebourne and to improve the quality of life for those who live there,” explained the health teacher.
Ms. Jones’s objective this year was to incorporate outdoor adventures and lifelong skills into her classes. Without the funds of the Stealey Green Grant this would not have been possible. “I was able to get all my sophomore students trained and certified in infant, child, and adult CPR, and the grant provided funds to incorporate a fishing trip to a local location, Conaway Lake.”
The students spent the day setting up tents, loading and unloading kayaks, fishing, cooking over a fire, and spending quality time with friends. “They had a great time. I am so thankful I was able to take them out of class for this activity. I would tell others this grant is worth applying for to better the lives of our students and give them access to local places, achieve new things, and gain lifelong skills for the future.”
Ms. Jones wished to express her thanks and those of her students for the grant awarded by the Ruth Stealey Green Foundation.
