TCHS Hosts Matt Boggs Memorial Wood Bat Classic

It was a beautiful day for baseball as the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights hosted the Matt Boggs Memorial Wooden Bat Classic in Kidwell on Saturday, April 13. Four teams participated from Weirton Madonna, River, Wheeling Central and Tyler Consolidated.
The Silver Knights met up with Madonna in their first game and came out on top in a hard fought 1-0 victory. It was a pitcher’s duel with Tyler’s Reese Davis going the distance recording 21 outs striking out 11 hitters while throwing a no hitter to pick up the win. Jacob Lazear was on the mound for the Blue Dons taking a no hitter to the fourth inning until Zade Billings beat out a bunt for the Knights first base runner. Zade would take second on a wild pitch steal third and came home on an Owen Westbrook single for the game’s only run. Tyler would manage only three hits on the day with Billings, Westbrook and Davis each collecting a hit. The win put the Knights in the Championship game later that day against Wheeling Central who defeated River in the other semi-final game.
The championship game did not go well for the Silver Knights as they fell to Wheeling Central by the score of 10-0 in a mercy rule five inning game. The Silver Knights bats went cold as they had no hits against Central pitching. The win gave Central the championship for the 2024 Wooden Bat Classic.
Tyler would finish runner up in the tournament with River defeating Madonna in the consolation game to finish in third place.
