TCHS Hosts Annual Volleyball Camp

The Tusculum Univeristy Volleyball Camp hosted by Tyler Consolidated has become a popular summer event for the past six years. The camp, which is held the last week of July, attracts campers from different communities in the Ohio Valley and this year had campers from four different states. New this year was the addition of a third- grade level which, according to the directors, was brought about by popular demand. Tusculum Head Coach Danielle Marante stated, “Over the years we often had parents pick up their child and say they wished their younger daughter could have attended. We talked to Knights Coaches Richard and Tracy Summers, and they agreed it would be a good idea to offer the camp to this age group as they had coached a team in this age group over the winter and felt the kids did a great job.” Marante noted, “And it was a great decision as we had many third graders attend, and we enjoyed working with them.”
Another change this year was to allow boys to attend. According to Coach Summers, boys’ volleyball is starting in Ohio this year and he believes it’s just a matter of time before it comes to West Virginia. “We didn’t have many boys this year, but as they start to see it grow in popularity those numbers will increase, “ Summers said.
The camp dates for next year are July 24-27. “We will be back,”said Jason Morris, Tusculum Assistant Coach. “We love this camp and hats off to Tyler Consolidated. They have something special here,ã he concluded.
