23 Teams Compete in TCHS Shootout
On Friday June 17, 23 teams from the area and around the state traveled to Tyler Consolidated high school for the 2022 TCHS basketball shootout. It was the perfect day for the event with each team getting to play at least three games.
The event started at 9:30 in the morning and basketball continued throughout the day at both high school gyms and at the Stealey Green Center in Middlebourne.
Parkersburg High School and River High School both finished the day undefeated with the Big Reds defeating TygartsValley 52-29, Ritchie County 56-37, and Brooke 63-55. River easily downed Gilmer County 63-28, Doddridge County 65-17, and St. Marys 55-34.
The Silver Knights also won all three of their contests by whipping up on Paden City 54-30, defeating Wood County 56-23 and downing Hundred 56-37. Tucker County had three wins on the day with a 57-35 thumping of Ravenswood, a 44-34 win over South Harrison and a 44-30 win over Cameron.
Madonna was the other three game winner with victories over Liberty 47-44, Tygarts Valley 48-46, and Williamston 44-36. Williamstown defeated Liberty 43-30, and Brooke 59-58. St. Mary got wins over Doddridge County 47-41 and Gilmer County 46-43. Ravenswood won two games 70-25 over Cameron and 51-50 over South Harrison
Hundred picked up two wins on the day with a 47-40 win over Paden City and a 39-32 win over Wood County Christian. Tygarts Valley got a win over Valley 52-42. Ritchie County won two contest with wins over Valley 44-43 and Gilmer 41-30. Wood County got a win with a 29-28 score over Paden City. South Harrison got a 43-38 win over Cameron.
Cameron, Gilmer, Paden City, Valley and Liberty all went 0-3 on the day but still played good ball against tough competition.
Silver Knights coach Steve Nutter said, “20 teams playing in three gyms at the Tyler Shotout today. We had OT’s, Buzzer Beaters, and even some game winners as time expired. Everyone’s efforts to make today possible were greatly appreciated.”
