Several Local Athletes Qualify for 2022 State Track Meet
The Region 1 track Meet was held on Friday evening May 13, at St. Marys under a threat of rain, lightning and wind. However the meet went on and several local schools ended with state qualifiers for this Friday and Saturdayás championships in Charleston.
In the girls 100 meter dash finals Magnoliaás Jaci Rohde will be heading downstate as she finished second in the race with a time of 13.02. The Blue Eagles will also have Jenna Blain heading south for a chance in the 200 meter dash as she got an at large bid with her fourth place time of 27.14. Shy Simmons also got an at large bid with a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:08.29.
Paden City freshman Lexi Mathis earned a spot in the 3200 meter run with a fourth place finish in a time of 12:46.96 to get an at large bid. Paden Cityás Mady Still came in third in the 100 meter hurdles to qualify for the state meet with a time of 16.51. Teammate Hallie McDonald will also make the trip to Charleston as she got an at large chance with a time of 17.05 for fourth place. In the 300 meter hurdles Magnoliaás Jenna Blain took second place in a time of 49.22 to earn a spot inthe state meet, and Paden Cityás Hallie McDonald also earned her way in the event with a third place finish in a time of 50.07. The Wildcats Mady Still came in sixth and got an at large bid with her time of 52.44.
Magnolia took seocnd place in the 4×100 meter relay with a team of Kaylee Cline, Bre Herrick, Sienna McKeever, and Jaci Rohde in a time of 53.31 to earn their trip to Charleston in the event.The Blue Eagles will also send the team of Cline, Herrick, McKeever and Blain in the 200 meter relay as they finished third in a time of 1:53.26. Magnoliaás 400 meter relay team of Shy Simmons, Herrick, Cline and Blain will head to Charleston in that event as they finished second with a time of 4:23.90. Paden City also will send a team down state as they finished sixth and was awarded an at large bid from a team of McDonald, Mathis, Brandis Dalrymple and Jocelyn Sawinski with a time of 4:33.57.
Paden City finished first in the 102.5 meter shuttle hurdles with a team of Sawinski, Still, Dalrymple and McDonald with a time of 1:11.25 edging out second place Williamstown and earning the trip to the state meet this weekend. Tyler Consolidated got an at large bid and will send a team of Makayla Haught, Bridget Doak, Trinity Kanz, and Bella Garuccio to Charleston as they finished fifth with a time of 1:17.17.
Tyler Consolidated’s Bella Garuccio earned a trip to the championships in Charleston in the high jump with a jump of 4-10.00 for second place. Jaci Rohde of Magnolia will get to CHarleston in the pole vault with a vault of 9-00.00. In the long jump Magnolia’s Rohde will also head to Charleston for that event as she came in second with a leap of 16-09.50. Paden City’s Jocelyn Sawinski was third and earned her way with a leap 15-03.25. Hundred will send Addie Tuttle to Charleston in the long jump with an at large bid jump of 15-01.00, while Valleyás Winter Higgins will also go on an at large bif with a jump of 14-06.25.
Hundredás Leah Delaney earned her trip to the state meet in the shot put with a toss of 30-11.00 good for third place. The Silver Knights of Tyler Consolidated will send first place finisher in the discus throw Sydney Deaton to the state meet as she got off a throw of 93-07 to best the field. Hundred’s Delaney will go onan at large bid with a throw of 84-09, while Paden City will send Marie Schramm with a 84-07.
In the Boys 200 meter dash Valley will send Isaiah Bassett to the state meet with a third place finish of 24.27. Magnolia will send Brady Renner in the 400 meter dash as he finished in second place with a time of 54.35 to earn his spot in the state meet. Paden City will send Brandon Hizer with an at large bid as he ran a 54.83, and Tyler Consolidated will send Sean Winfrey with an at large chance as he ran a 54.98. Magnolia’s Renner will also run in Charleston in the 800 meter race as he earneda spot with a time of 2:05.11 good for second place. The Silver Knights picked up an at large bid in the 1600 meter run as Jaden Ebert finished fifth in a time of 4:56.17 to make the trip south this weekend. Magnolia’s Landen Davis got an at large chance in the state meet as he finished the 3200 meter run in a time of 10:40.05 good for fourth place at the regionals.
In the 110 meter hurdles Paden City’s Shane Anderson finished third in a time of 15.99 to earn his trip to the state meet. Teammate Logan Smith finished sixth and earned an at large bid with a time of 18.00. The Wildcats Jasup Spragg will get to the state meet with an at large bid in the 300 meter hurdles with a fifth place finish time of 46.13.
In the 200 meter relay Paden City earned a spot in the state eet with a third place finish in a time of 1:38.49 from a team of Jasup Sppragg, Shane Anderson. William Christensen, and Brandon Hizer. Magnolia qualified for an at large bid and a trip to the state meet with a fifth place finish from a team of Sam Mensore, Damien Gatian, Marcus Barnes, and Landen Anderson in a time of 1:40.03. The Blue Eagles also picked up an at large bid in the 4×400 meter relay with a team of Brady Renner, Jordan Davis, Damon Shimp, and Marcus Barnes with a time of 3:47.22 good for fourth place in the regionals.The Blue Eagles 4×800 meter relay team will also be heading to Charleston this weekend as they finished fourth in the race with a 9:08.21 from a team of Lucas Zombotti Jr., Landen Davis, Jordan Davis, and Sean Stapel good for an at large bid.
Paden City earned a trip to the state meet in the 4×110 meter shuttle hurdles with a second place finish in a time of 1:03.81 from a team of Jasup Spragg, Julian Landauer, Logan Smith, and Shane Anderson. Magnolia earned their way with a third place finishe in a time of 1:05.58 from a team of Damien Gatian, Marcus Barnes, Austin Beverlin, and Shane Anderson.
In the boys high jump Magnolia’s Austin Beverlin took first place with a jump of 5-10.00 to qualify for the state meet this weekend. Paden Cityás Shane Anderson also went 5-10.00 for second place to earn his way to Charleston. Valleyás Isaiah Bassett also had a 5-10.00 for third place and an earned trip to the state meet. In the pole vault Tyler Consolidated’s Sage Landis took second place with a 12-06.00 to qualify for the state meet. Teammate Branson Winfrey came in seventh with a vault of 9-00.00 and got an at large bid to the state. In the long jump Magnolia’s Beverlin came in second with a leap of 19-11.50 to qualify for the state competition this weekend. Valley’s Trston Bates with a 19-06.75, and Hundred’s Colton Whitehill with a leap of 18-04.50 also will make the trip to the state meet with at large bids in the event.
In the shot put Tyler Consolidated’s Jaden Holmes earned a trip to Charleston with a toss of 43-03.00. Magnolia’s Joey Dawson got an at large bid to the event with a toss of 41-07.00. The Silver Knights David Grimes with a throw of 125-03 in the discus took second place and earned a trip to the state meet this weekend.
