Helmick Shuts Out St Marys

The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights baseball team behind the strong performance on the mound from Jayden Helmick defeated St Marys on Monday May 2 on the road at City Park in St Marys. Jayden struck out 10 over seven shut out innings walking none to improve the Knights record to 18-7 on the year. Ty Walton and Zade Billings each drove in three runs for the Knights. Walton’s two run triple in the sixth inning made the score 5-0 going to the seventh and St Marys was unable to get anything going against Helmick. Carson Gorby would add to the lead with an RBI double to wrap up the victory. Also at the plate Alec Chaplin had two singles. The Silver Knights will next face off with Williamstown in an important LKC battle on Tuesday May 3rd.

TCHS Baseball Opens LKC Tournament with Shutout of Braxton County

Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights opened the LKC tournament with a 4-0 shut out of Braxton County on Thursday, May 5, 2022. Tyler ace Ty Walton went 6 2/3 innings allowing four hits, no runs while striking out 11. The Knights were led by John Jayden Helmick going two for three scoring two runs, Zade Billings two for three scoring one run with two RBI’s, Hayden Brown two for three with one RBI and Weston Henderson one for two scoring one run.  The win put the Silver Knights in the championship game against Williamstown.

Tyler Consolidated Baseball Captures LKC Championship

The Class A Number 5 Ranked Silver Knights defeated Williamstown in the championship game of the LKC tournament on Saturday, May 7 in Glenville. With the win the Silver Knights (20-7) captured their first Little Kanawha Conference Championship. In both victories over Braxton County and Williamstown, TCHS did not surrender a run. 

With Tyler holding a 2-0 lead going to the bottom of the seventh Williamstown put two men in scoring position with two outs and Leewood Molessa, one of the best hitters in the state, coming to the plate. Coach Jones called the team to the mound and they collectively decided to put the winning run on first base by walking Molessa. Jayden Helmick who was stellar on the mound for the Knights induce a ground ball to Weston Henderson at second who threw out Ty Ott at first and secured the victory. “When I called time, I went out to discuss it with all my guys,” Jones said. “I wanted to know what their thoughts were on it, because the decision we made was going to be as a team. They said, “put him on and we’ll get the next guy.” He was able to induce a ground ball and we cleaned it up at the end.”

The Knights only managed four hits against Williamstown pitching but was able to drive across two runs when Hayden Brown singled driving in Jayden Helmick and Carson Gorby, who had doubled, to open a 2-0 lead. On the night Helmick was two for three scoring one run and Carson Gorby one for three scoring one run. Jayden Helmick got the win for the Knights going the distance allowing six hits while striking out seven.

The Silver Knights will begin Sectional play on Tuesday May 10 when they host Ritchie County.
