Winter, scores, and more

By Staff | Jan 28, 2017

Good morning Tyler County.

It’s cold, snowy feeling on Saturday. Thirty degrees outside. Stay in bed or not. Maybe let the dog out. He’ll be back inside real quick.

That said, last year around this time the region endured heavy snowfall from Winter Storm Jonas. The photo posted on Facebook is of Sampson, owned by Dawn Brown, of Shiloh Road, as he runs in the snow during Jonas. Great photo.

In sports news, the Wildcats’ boys’ basketball team (7-7) beat Union by a bucket, 56-54, on Friday in Paden City. Look at that — Hayden Hizer scored 17 points.

PCHS’ girls’ basketball team fell, 56-33, to Clay-Battelle at home in WVHIT. Hannah Loy scored 13 points.

Speaking of basketball, a few familiar faces are listed among the Mid-Ohio Valley Basketball Leaders.

Silver Knight’s JoLee Walton scores an average of 11.4 points per game; Josey Jones at 10.5 ppg; Peyton Kocher at 9.4 ppg; Amanda Reynolds with 7.6 ppg. Points scored is just the tip of the iceberg because these kids are listed many times in various categories of stats.

The Rotary Classic is tonight in Magnolia, so maybe look for the listings to see your favorite team play.

On the boys’ side of the ledger, Wildcats’ Aaron Heasley leads the Mid-Ohio Valley with an average of 26.8 points per game. I don’t think Heasley has dipped below 20 ppg during the season. He scored 23 points against Union on Friday night. Good deal Hizer, who has 13.4 ppg.

In other news, members of the TCHS and Wildcats’ marching bands will be traveling to West Liberty for solo and ensemble competition. Good luck.
